Happy First Week of School!
Welcome to Mrs. Sloop's 5th Grade
Welcome
This week we are starting slow and working on some assignments that do not require internet or log ins until everyone receives their Chromebook. These assignments will be for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Once everyone has their computers we will start our regular schedule. If you did not pick up the paper packet you can complete these assignments in your notebook or in a Google Doc and we will share them at a later date. If you picked up the paper packet you can compete these assignments on paper!
Materials Needed for These Assignments:
-Writing Notebook or Journal
-Book of your choice
Monday Assignments
Write a letter to your teacher telling them all about you. Some things you might want to include are: your favorite things & activities, details about your family, and what you’re excited about for fifth grade! You can choose to write a letter on paper, send an email with your letter, or video yourself talking about these things! If you choose the paper option you can bring it to your meeting or save it for our first Zoom.
2. Ecosystem BrainDump
Use a blank piece of paper to re-create the chart below. You will tell me EVERYTHING you know about Ecosystems. Tell us what you know about the environment, about animals that live around you, and how they interact with each other. You can use bullet points, sentences, or pictures. Try to come up with at least TWO questions that you want answered this year under the "Questions I have about Ecosystems". Re-create the chart below on your own paper and fill it in!
3. SSR/30 Minute Timer:
Tuesday Assignments
1. All About Me Bag
Make an “All About Me Bag” that includes at least FIVE items that represent you. Possible items could be: soccer ball, ballet shoe, favorite snack, baby pictures, sports memorabilia, games, Pokemon cards, etc. Be creative! Gather these items and be prepared to share these with your classmates on our first Zoom.
2. Nature Walk/Ecosystem Identification:
Take a nature walk and look for things that would fit into these categories. Do your best to identify what they are. Try to match them to the definition. You may list or draw the organism you find. Re-create the chart below in your notebook.
3. SSR/30 Minute Timer:
Wednesday Assignments
Follow the specific directions that apply to YOUR life and create your own Name Tag Glyph. If you are participating digitally without a packet, you can follow these directions and use a regular piece of paper to create your glyph. You’ll need crayons, colored pencils, or markers to create this. Be ready to share this with us on our first Zoom. See the directions and example below.
2. Curiosity Corner
Grab your writing journal and make your first entry! Tell your teacher something you REALLY want to learn about this year that might not be something you would normally learn about in school. Example: How ballet shoes are made, Video-game design, or even sport statistics! This can be as creative as you so choose! Tell us what you already know about that topic, too!
