Preparing for the FAFSA
Getting ready to tackle the FAFSA? Let us guide you through the process! Preparing for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) can seem daunting, but with our expert tips and resources, you'll be well-equipped to navigate the financial aid application smoothly. Ensure you make the most of available opportunities for financial assistance by getting a head start on your FAFSA preparation.
STEP 1 - Create your FSA ID (Student & Parent)
The first step to completing your FAFSA is to create an FSA ID (a username and password). Your FSA ID gives you access to Federal Student Aid’s online system and serves as your legal signature. You’ll use your FSA ID every year you are in college to complete the FAFSA and review your federal student aid. Fill in this form as you create your FSA ID so you have the information when you need it to log in later.
Both the student and the parent will each need their own individual FSA ID's as this becomes your digital signature to submit the FAFSA. Click the picture for a nice easy hand out to keep your FSA ID information organize!
STEP 2 - Collect FAFSA information on the 23-23 FAFSA Checklist
The FAFSA has changed this year. Students and parents can be prepared to complete the FAFSA by using the linked 2023-2024 FAFSA Checklist. See the Save the Dates for FAFSA Help Nights!
STEP 3 - Get Help with Financial Aid
Navigating the financial aid process can be quite daunting, but you don't have to go through it alone! We're offering three Financial Aid Help Nights to assist both students and parents.
Here are the scheduled dates:
- Monday, December 2, 2023, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm KHS Library.
- Monday, January 8, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm KHS Library.
- Monday, February 5, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm KHS Library.
Please note that the same valuable information will be covered at each event, so it's not necessary to attend all three nights.
At these events, you can expect assistance with:
- Creating your FSA ID
- Completing the FAFSA
- Applying for Scholarship Idaho, including the Idaho Launch Grant and Idaho Opportunities
It's worth noting that many colleges and scholarships require the FAFSA to be completed and processed by February 15, 2024, for consideration. Don't miss out on this valuable opportunity to get the help you need!
