Novi Middle School News
News from Wildcat Country -January 23, 2020
Administrative Note
Each January the Novi Schools help support our local food pantry by hosting a food drive. This year, NMS has been assigned to collect boxed pancake mix and/or syrup! Each school is working to collect specific needed items and we hope that NMS can rally to do our part! Please help if you are able. We'd like to fill 6+ boxes before Friday, February 7th, and all items help people in our community who are hungry. We will have a competition by A-20 class. All donations can either be dropped off in the Main Office or delivered to A-20 teachers. Thank you!
Speaking of our Novi community, please consider joining the Unity in the Community event to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is held on Monday, January 20th at 7:00 pm in the Fuerst Auditorium at Novi High School. The event features performances, student essays, and great speakers! Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Principal Baker & Dean Southworth

Ski /Snowboard Club
Novi Middle School Ski / Snowboarder Club Information:
What is Ski/Snowboarder Club?
The ski club is for any Novi Middle School skier and/or snowboarder. It is an opportunity to have fun with your friends on the slopes of Alpine Valley Ski Resort. Nevertheless, students will be EXPECTED to follow Novi Middle School and Alpine Valley policies (see attached forms), as well as all instructions of the ski/snowboarder club sponsors, chaperones, bus drivers and Alpine Valley employees. To maximize the enjoyment of all, anybody who chooses not to follow instructions, is late for the bus, or is not picked up after the trip on time will be excluded from future Novi Middle School Ski Club trips.
How do I sign up for Ski/Snowboarder Club?
Pick up an informational packet from the office, read it over with your parents. By 12:00p.m., the Wednesday before the trip, you must bring the Parent Consent Form, Ski/Snowboard Rental Contract and a check to the main office. Ski/Snowboard Rental Forms will be provided to students the day of the trip. Please make the check out to Novi Middle School and write the student’s name, and what they are purchasing on the memo line. We have to notify Alpine Valley in advance, therefore we cannot accept any checks/consent forms/liability agreements/rental forms after 12:00p.m., Wednesday before the trip. You will only have to turn in the required paperwork before your first trip. Beginning with the 2nd trip, you will only need to turn in your check.
When does Ski/Snowboarder Club meet?
(Please note these dates are all weather permitting)
· January 24, 31
· February 7, 14, 21, 28
· Students must go home after school and then come back and meet in the NMS cafeteria no later than 4:30 p.m. the day of the trip. Busses leave at approximately 4:45 p.m.
How much is the trip?
In order to receive the group rates, each skier/snowboarding must purchase a “Club Card”. These cost $20 and come with two free ski lessons, or one free snowboard lesson. The Club Card also includes five separate $5-off lift tickets for any other dates (there are no blackout dates for these discounts). Parents may also purchase a Club Card if they wish to ride along with the Ski Club at the same rates. However, they may not receive a discount for lessons. The following prices are for Club Card members only, and you must purchase one to join the ski club.
o Club Card $20
o Ticket (with Club Card) $20
o Ski/Snowboard Rental $20
o Helmet Rental $10
o Additional Lesson $10
Please stop by the Main Office to pick up your packet.

SPORTS
New Athletic Website
We are very excited to announce that the Novi Community Schools Athletic Department has partnered with FinalForms, online forms, and data management service. FinalForms allows you to complete and sign athletic participation forms for your students. The most exciting news is that FinalForms saves data from season-to-season and year-to-year, meaning that you will never need to enter the same information twice! FinalForms also pre-populates information wherever possible, for each of your students, saving you time.
You may review your data at any time to verify it is current. You will be required to sign your forms once per year and after any update.
Click on the Parent Playbook (attached) to get started in FinalForms. If you require any support during the process, scroll to the page bottom and click “Use Support”.
We are asking that ALL parents of athletes use FinalForms.
Please register at: https://novi-mi.finalforms.com/students
and follow the prompts to create your account, create your students and sign your forms.
Thank you for your assistance in streamlining our paperwork processes at Novi Community Schools.
FOR YOUR SAFETY
The Michigan Child Protection Registry
The Michigan Child Protection Registry, administered under our Secretary of State’s office, is dedicated to stopping minors, parents and other caregivers from receiving any solicitations from gambling, tobacco, alcohol, marijuana and pornography companies via email and text messaging. You can visit the Registry at www.ProtectMIChild.com.
There are 4 things you can do to help get this information out to parents:
- Include information about the Registry in a newsletter. I’ve attached a copy of what other schools have used in the past in their newsletters.
- Include a link to the Registry somewhere on your website.
- Include a brief description and a link to the Registry on your Facebook page. (I can assist you with the wording.)
- If you are looking for someone to talk about the Registry, internet safety and the popular apps that teens are using, please contact me. I speak to a lot of parent groups all around Michigan.
I can’t stress enough how important internet safety and this Registry is in helping to keep our kids safe while using any type of mobile device. Please let me know if you can help us inform parents of this resource, if you have any questions or need additional information. Thank you so much and have a great day!
