Computer Lab Update
What a fun and exciting start to our 4th quarter in the computer lab!! We are beginning to learn new things in each grade that will help us prepare for what we will be learning the following year in computers!
Kindergarten is getting introduced to google docs. How to create, open, edit and even turn in work into google classroom. We are exploring how to type words with capitals, change fonts, colors and sizes and how to insert pictures into a document! We have explored a little with a fun video site called Flipgrid where the kids can leave video messages for me and each other (Don't worry... it is a VERY safe password and email domain protected site). Lots going on in here getting ready for 1st grade!
1st grade is working on showing independence in Google Docs and most recently began a unit on Coding. Your 1st graders are on the fast tract to becoming computer programmers! It is so fun to watch them problem solve through the process! We will also begin learning how to use Google Slides as a presentation tool as we teach our classmates about Coins and their values.
2nd grade has begun the challenge of learning how to type properly. We have learned and are practicing the "home row" keys as our finger placement and spending 15 minutes each class period practicing this new life long skill. If you would like to help your student become a better typer have them practice at home! There are TONS of free typing online programs! We use typing.com in here! We are currently investigating Stop Motion which uses still pictures to create an impression of movement. They are so fun and the 2nd graders have done an amazing job! Ask them about it!
3rd grade is also exploring Stop Motion using their animal research they are doing in both the library and their classroom. We are creating the impression through still pictures that their animal is moving through their habitat, moving towards their food source/prey and then trying to escape their predator. They are doing an amazing job on them! We also continue to work on our typing skills using their home row keys and are currently practicing by typing our final copies of their research projects.
4th grade has a big quarter coming up! They get to participate in a design contest for our field day t-shirts. 1 fourth grader's design will be chosen to use as the entire school's field day t-shirt. They are currently working on their musical during specials time, but then will pick up where we left off. Their BIG 4th grade end of the year project in here is to design their own 4th grade memories t-shirt that will be printed and ironed on to a t-shirt for them to wear the last day of school. Be looking for more information coming home on this in the next couple of weeks.
We are finishing the year strong in the computer lab and trying to get those skills polished and ready for success!

- May 22 - Full day of school (originally a 1/2 day of school)

Parent Input for Class Placements (Repeat)
The vision for Madison Elementary is to create learning experiences for every learner, every day, in every way. It is essential to establish a learning environment that promotes the academic success, personal growth and general well-being of each and every child. As such, it is important we spend time ensuring that every child is placed in a classroom where he/she can thrive to his/her maximum potential. Over the next few weeks, I will begin working closely with classroom, special education and specialist teachers as we begin to focus upon classroom placement for the 2019-2020 school year.
Parent/Guardian input is certainly welcome if parents/guardians would like to share information about their child to support the placement process. The class placement input form has been designed for this purpose. Parents/Guardians are reminded that a request for a specific teacher by name cannot be accepted. Forms that request a teacher by name will not be considered. There are several reasons for this. For example, we could encounter a situation where the team feels two or more students should not be in the same class, yet their parents have requested the same teacher. Furthermore, there may be other reasons which prevent requested placement including confidential factors concerning other students. Additionally, with a growing student population, last minute staff changes may occur which might prevent placing a student in a specific classroom. Parents/Guardians who complete the optional input form will need to have the form completed no later than Friday, April 5, 2019.
Our common goal is to make the school experience the best it can possibly be for every child. The Gardner Edgerton School District is fortunate to have excellent teachers who put children first. We all pledge to you that we will do all that we can to make your child’s education enjoyable, exciting, fun, meaningful and productive.
