A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
This week I met with the Senior and Sophomore Classes to talk to them about the importance of the upcoming mandated state testing. As you well know, the Senior Class will take the WorkKeys test, and the Sophomore Class will take the PreACT on Tuesday, October, 1 at 8:15 am.
The WorkKeys assessment measures foundational skills required for success in the workplace, and help measure the workplace skills that can affect job performance. Students who attain the Silver Level in the three WorkKeys assessments- Applied math, Graphic literacy, and Workplace Documents earn the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate. This is a valuable credential for students to verify workplace skills. Also, this assessment is part of the Spain Park State Report Card and part of our Seniors’ exam exemptions. Please make sure your student is in attendance this day and ready to do well on this test.
The PreACT assessment for tenth-grade gives students an estimated ACT Score and can be used as an indicator of College and Career Readiness. Your student will receive reports that include data to help teachers and counselors target intervention and form classroom instruction and guide students in course selections. Again, please make sure your student is in attendance and ready to do well on this mandated test.
In addition to our testing classes, our ninth and eleventh graders will have an E-Learning day. See the flyer below for everything happening on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
I hope you were able to attend the Pride of the Park Marching Band’s annual Sparks in the Park community event on Tuesday. We had nine high school bands from across Jefferson and Shelby counties and the UAB Blazer Band perform their half-time shows; it was an impressive and enjoyable event.
Please be aware that your student may qualify for free or reduced-priced meals here at school but a new application is needed each year. It is not too late to apply: click HERE for the application.
I look forward to celebrating Homecoming Week with all of our students, faculty, staff, and parents. Check the Upcoming Events Section for Homecoming events.
As always, I am available to hear your feedback on how we can make SPHS a great place to be.
Sincerely,
Peter L. Giangrosso
