Each year Longfellow has a holiday sponsorship program for students. Each sponsor is given an anonymous wish list of the student's 3 wants and 3 needs than asked to shop for that student. If you are interested in sponsoring a Longfellow Lion, please fill out the form below and Mrs. Whittle will send you more information.
If you are need of assistance this holiday season please contact Mrs. Whittle at 366-5948.

Update from Health Services
As cold and flu season approaches, there are many ways parents can help to keep students healthy. Now is a good time to take a few minutes to remind your student about some of the simple things they can do to stop the spread of germs that can make themselves or others sick. One of the very best ways to prevent the spread of illness is through frequent hand washing. Proper hand washing technique, as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), includes:
use soap and warm running water
rub your hands vigorously as you wash them for 20 seconds
wash all surfaces (including backs of hands, wrists, between fingers and under fingernails)
rinse well and leave the water running until after drying your hands
dry hands with a single-use towel and turn off faucet using a paper towel
if soap and running water are not available, use of an EPA approved hand sanitizer is recommended when hands are not visibly dirty.
It is important to wash your hands frequently, including:
before and after eating
after using the bathroom
after touching animals
after sneezing or blowing your nose
after coughing
before you touch your eyes, mouth or nose
after being in a crowded public space
Other good habits, such as getting plenty of sleep, engaging in regular physical activity, managing stress, drinking water, getting a flu shot, and eating healthy food, will help students stay healthy all year. Custodial staff members regularly clean and sanitize schools, and are paying close attention to areas where hand contact is high; such as doorknobs, water fountains, and bathrooms.
As a parent, deciding when a child is too sick to go to school can be difficult. Please know that good health is more important than perfect attendance. In order for your student to be healthy, available for learning, and to control communicable diseases in school, please do not send your student to school if they have any of the following symptoms:
fever above 100.4 degrees
sore throat or tonsillitis
spots/rash
Bad Cough/Cold Symptoms
Eye Inflammation or Discharge
Vomiting and/or Diarrhea
Head Lice
Acute Pain
If your child does become sick or has a communicable disease, please notify the school. In some instances, it will be necessary for your physician to provide the school with a medical release before your child may return to school. If you or your child, have symptoms of an illness (e.g. fever, coughing, body aches, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, rash, or inflammation of the eyes or eyelids), the Oklahoma State Department of Health recommends:
students that have been ill should be fever free and off fever-reducing medications for 24 hours, before returning to school
staying home from work or school to reduce the risk of exposing others
covering your nose and mouth with a tissue whenever you cough or sneeze and place the used tissue in the wastebasket
when tissues are not available, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve and immediately wash hands
