Captain's Log
PASS CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT
Ahoy, Pirates!
Happy Mother's Day to all of our Pirate moms!
Have you ever had a child call you mom by accident or cry to stay with you at the end of the year? Do they flock to your room during planning periods? Maybe, they seem to always be on your hall although they were with you in a previous semester/year. When this happens, it means that you have made a familial connection with the child. For that child you are more than their teacher; for that child, you are seen as a person who is giving agape love to him or her. I witness it often; they sit with you at the games. They send you notes. They hug you upon sight. One noticeable example from this past week was a PCMS teacher who, in true Pirate fashion, has very high eXpectations for behavior, school work, etc. in her class. The teacher received many notes from her students thanking her for pushing them and holding them accountable for their learning. As I read the notes, one after the other, it made me misty-eyed. I could glean from the 15+ notes that the students understood that behind it all is a teacher who wants the best for them and who loves them. What a testament to being a teacher mom! Thank you to all of the teacher moms and dads in Pirate Nation! Our relationships with our children are one of most prized treasures. For the last 57 calendar days (36 school days) 2,050 Pirate Learners from 1,217 households have experienced your commitment in new ways. Thank you for fighting to hold on to our children's hearts during the pandemic. You have been phenomenal! We can hardly wait to SAIL-A-BRATE you!
With that, I submit the Captain's Log. #nosurrender #2020vision #committedtoeXcellence #eXcellencemarksthespot cje

Governor Tate Reeves, Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann, and Speaker of the House Philip Gunn, met Wednesday, May 6, 2020, and compromised on who has the authority to appropriate and spend the COVID-19 stimulus funds. Thursday, they reached an agreement that the Legislature will appropriate the funds, with the Governor’s input, and Governor Reeves will administer them.
On Thursday, May 7, 2020, the House and Senate reconvened, and the Senate held SB 2772 on a motion to reconsider, which will give them time to develop a plan to deal with getting stimulus relief funds to areas of need, such as education, small businesses, unemployment, etc.
Today Governor Reeves issued Executive Order 1480 extending the Safer-At-Home Order until 8:00 a. m. Monday, May 25, 2020. The new order will allow more business to open. The order is located below.
