Wildwood Elementary School
August Newsletter
A Note from Your Principal...
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We are excited to have our students back on campus and look forward to a great year of learning. As we open the school year, we want to ensure that our students feel safe and our school community knows what to expect when they visit our campus. Below I have listed a few questions that we have received in hopes to set your mind at ease with our campus procedures. At Wildwood Elementary, we believe in partnering with our families for the success of all students while also ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to a great school year and partnership in your child’s education.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Will parents be allowed to attend an in-person Meet The Teacher?
Yes, we will have a Meet The Teacher event for parents to attend. This event will be held on Thursday, August 12 at Wildwood. It will be a come and go event. During this time, you will be allowed to go to the classroom with your child, find their desk for the first day of school, drop off school supplies, and meet your child’s teacher. If you ordered school supplies from the school, you will be able to pick them up and take them to their classroom. We do not have any additional school supply packets. If you did not order the supplies online last year, you will need to purchase the items separately.
Our schedule is:
4:30-5:45 Last names A-M
6:15-7:30 Last names N-Z
We have divided the time so parents will, hopefully, have parking available.
Those that are unable to attend Meet The Teacher on the scheduled day/time will be contacted by your child’s teacher via phone call or virtual experience. We want to ensure you and your child have an opportunity to meet their teacher and know what to expect on Day 1.
Will parents be allowed to walk their child to class?
Consistent transportation for your child helps ensure their safety and ensures the maximum time for our instructional day. It is important to us that you have the opportunity to wish your child well on the first day of school. If you did not have the opportunity to take your child’s picture at Meet the Teacher, we will have a special location at the front of the building for you to take a picture, say your good-byes and wish your child well for the day. Once students enter the building, we will have employees stationed in the hallways to help get your child(ren) to the classroom. To ensure the safety of all students, we encourage you to take advantage of Meet the Teacher to view the building, meet the staff and understand the daily procedures.
Will parent visitors be allowed on Elementary Campuses?
We believe that parent involvement helps ensure all students are successful. All Elementary campuses will practice a phase-in approach. The purpose of this phase-in plan is to ensure that our students have the opportunity to learn our campus procedures. Beginning day one, Parents will be allowed to visit the campus for school business such as supply/material drop-off, lunch drop-off, scheduled parent conferences, etc. Additionally, parent volunteer opportunities will also be available. At Wildwood, the best way to learn about volunteer opportunities is through our PTO. Our amazing PTO will have a table at our Meet the Teacher with more information. Volunteers in our district must complete a background check by clicking here.
Will parents be able to eat lunch with their children?
Lunch is a daily part of the instructional day and each lunch lasts 30 minutes. As a fast-growth district with limited space in the cafeteria, it is important for us to establish our procedures and lunch expectations with the students during the first few weeks of school. To help with this process, we will not have visitors on campus during the lunch periods for the first few weeks of school. You can expect to receive our lunch visitor policies and procedures after September 7, 2021 indicating when we will open the campus for lunch visitors. Please remember that all visitors must bring their driver's license with them to campus to check in at the front office and be listed as an emergency contact for each individual student. Space will be limited during lunch periods and on a first come first serve basis.
How will birthdays be celebrated on campus?
Our students are extremely important to us and we want them to feel celebrated. To ensure the safety of all students, birthday treats must be store bought and individually packaged by the store. For your convenience, the school cafeteria will have ice cream treats available for purchase as well. If you would like to purchase items from the cafeteria, please contact your child’s teacher ASAP so we can help make arrangements for this purchase prior to arriving at the cafeteria.
*If you have any additional questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the front office at 281-357-3040.

Transportation Changes
Should the need arise to change the way your child will be going home you can: send a note with your child on that day that includes a parent signature OR fax a note with your signature and driver's license before 3:00 pm. No phone call or email transportation changes will be accepted. While this policy may cause some inconvenience from time to time, our number one priority is the safety of all our Wildwood students. We encourage you to call and confirm that your note or fax was received. Our fax number is 281-357-3041.
Any last minute emergency transportation changes will require administrative approval. Without proper notification, your child will be sent home by their regular means of transportation. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
If you need to pick up your child prior to 3:50, you must come inside the office and sign your child out before 3:20 pm, no later. After proper identification is established, we will call for your child to come to the office to leave campus. Wildwood students will only be released to the individuals whose name appears on the contact form.
Please note that students who ride buses must ride their assigned bus. Transportation policy does not allow a student to ride home with another student unless the student has met the criteria for a transportation exemption. If you feel your child would meet this exemption, please contact the transportation department directly.

Car Rider Line
We have many students who come and go to school via the car rider line. Our goal at WES is to safely, efficiently, and expeditiously take in/load out as many students as possible with parents having to wait the least amount of time in the car rider line! We are proud that many parents have called us the Chick-Fil-A of car rider lines! Our staff is sweet and focused on safety! With this goal in mind, we must have respect and cooperation for the process involved.
All car riders are dropped off/picked-up through the car rider line only. Please ensure that you only drop-off/pick-up your child when you are in the drop-off/pick-up zone of the car rider line. The drop-off/pick-up zone is the side walk that is in front of the school (span of 12 vehicles x2 rows at a time drop off in shifts). Please pull forward as far as possible (following the direction of staff members on duty) before having your child exit or enter the vehicle. Please ensure your child understands that they must exit and enter the vehicle on the passenger side closest to the sidewalk. Our goal is to move students and parents through the car rider line as safely and as expeditiously as possible with the least amount of frustration for parents!
If you happen to get in the car rider line and you do not have your car rider tag, we will ask you to park and wait in your car until the car rider line is almost finished. You will then come to the front door with your ID and ring the bell and we will get your child for you. If you have a car rider tag from last year, please continue to use the same one. If you are new to Wildwood or your child was a bus rider last year and will be a car rider this year, you may pick up a tag during Meet the Teacher, or on Monday, August 16th from 8:00-4:00 in our front office. If your child will be a walker, please pick up a walker tag in the front office as well, or use the one from last year.
As always, please be mindful during drop off and pick up times of bikers and walkers. There is a crosswalk at the entrance of the front drive and students frequent this area in the mornings before school and after school. When parents walk their child(ren) to school, please plan to drop them off at the flag pole. We do our best to keep the front of the school safe with staff and students only.
