Discovery Elementary

Home of the Dolphins - March 30, 2020

A message from Mrs. Koehnen:

Hello Discovery students and families,

I hope this message finds each of you doing well and staying positive during this challenging time. We miss you and are hopeful we will be able to see you all soon. This Weekly Newsletter provides important information for families about how to stay connected with us. If you have questions, or there's anything we can do for you, please let us know. Our goal is to support you and your students during this time.

Last week teachers across the district worked to complete 2nd trimester Report Cards and personally reached out to students and families. Our goal is to get in contact with each family to ensure we have the best way to contact and communicate with you. If you need changes made to your contact information, please let your child's classroom teacher know and we will work together to get changes made. Report cards will be available through the Qmlativ - Family Access center beginning Wednesday, April 1st.

This week grade-level review and practice packets have been made available on the district website. Please click here to access the district family resources website for preschool through grade 8. In addition, printed packets will be available starting today, March 30, at meal distribution locations and mobile meal routes. (The meal site at Mariner High School is open each weekday from 11:30 - 1:00 p.m.) These packets are intended to provide students practice to help maintain their skills. They are optional and will not be graded, but we encourage families to use them. Families are encouraged to access these packets in any way that works for you. Is your child above standard? You might pick up your child's grade level packet, as well as the packet of the grade above. Does your child receive Special education services? A packet at a grade or two below your child's grade level may have some activities your child can access. Is your child below standard? Try using the grade level before your student's grade to support their learning. This week our teachers and staff are continuing to learn about and beginning to create online learning opportunities for students. This type of learning is new for everyone and staff are working hard to continue to meet the needs of each Discovery student. Thank you for your patience.

Stay safe and positive!

Mrs. Koehnen
