Jane Addams Middle School
Week of November 21
Dear Families,
Yes, we have school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday this week. Elementary and our local K-8 schools do not have school. JAMS has student led conferences in the spring.
We'll start our week with a bit of student-led fun. Our ASB has organized a Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament for Monday morning (with amazing trophies created by Teacher Alexander, see the photo). And in December our student leaders are planning a winter door competition. As our daylight hours get shorter and the weather gets colder we are looking forward to ending the 2021 school year with community building and fun. Next week we will have more details about music concerts and basketball.
As we head into a bit of break on Thursday and Friday I want to say a simple thank you to the students, educators and families of Jane Addams Middle School. You all are special people, and while starting a school year in a pandemic has made for the most challenging year for many of us, I am so proud of how well our students and educators are working in partnership with our families to navigate these challenges. We do not know what December and January will bring us, but I do know that the educators, families, and students at Jane Addams will be ready to work together to support each other. Thank you.
I also want to recognize and thank our SEQACIB students and educators. With the guidance of Ms. Stacia, our Native students have a space within our school day where they are learning and celebrating their past, their present, and their futures. The students have created a display in our front hall to educate our community on Native Heritage Month. Let's encourage all of our students to take some time this week to stop and learn from the display, and as we head into our Thursday and Friday break I encourage families to take some time to recognize and to respect the past, present and future generations who have lived on this land since Time Immemorial and have your students share what they learned from this display.
Quarter 1 Report cards were sent home this Friday on bright pink paper. Insist that your child shows these to you. While these grades are not permanent, this report card is an important check in. At Jane Addams we are only using the A, B, C, C- and N grades this year. If your child has a C- or a N in multiple classes, this is an indication that extra support is needed and a team will be reaching out.
Vaccine Clinics
We are hosting our clinic this Tuesday. This clinic is only for students under 12. While families may come with their child, parent attendance is not required. If you need any help registering, please call us, text, or email. We will send more information on Monday evening to families that have registered.
