BTMS Summer Reading
Summer reading at BTMS promotes reading growth so that students do not lose ground over the summer months. Your child will read 2 of the S.C. Junior Book Award Nominees for this year’s summer reading assignment. Please see the list on the flyer for this year’s choices. Students must complete an online assignment for each of their book choices. Assignments will be posted on the BTMS website starting May 22 and are due August 28.

THINK THROUGH MATH
Sixth grade students have been working hard all year on their individualized math program called Think Through Math. Some students have gone above and beyond to truly get ahead in their math comprehension by passing 60 or more lessons in the program! To reward these 76 students the school is sending them to Revolutions to enjoy some bowling, laser tag, arcade games, and pizza May 4th! Congratulations to these students and keep up the good work! The sixth grade math teachers are so proud of all students for their hard work in thinking about math in so many different ways!

EXCITING THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN RELATED ARTS!
ART HONORS
The level of inquiry, discovery, and reflection as they shared their thoughts and experience at the show with each other afterwards was worthy of an upperclassmen course! Even our bus driver was impressed by our students, having overheard our roundtable and being drawn in to listen.

HONORS CHOURS
The BTMS Honors Chorus performed the National Anthem on Friday, April 21st at the Charlotte Knights Baseball. As always, they did a fantastic job!

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCE
Mrs. Bauer's 8th graders take a virtual trip around the world each year to experience different cuisines. They also learn about various traditions, staple ingredients, cooking equipment and they actually get to prepare and taste various recipes from each country that they travel to. Students participated in an international Iron Chef style competition on Thursday, April 20th that offered fare from China, Italy, Mexico and Germany. Administrators and teachers were able to taste each dish prepared by the students and graded them on their work. Students learned a lot about working together as a team, and, that even if something may not look that appealing, it can still taste very good!

IMPORTANT NEWS FROM OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Sports Physicals for the 2017-2018 School Year:
The South Carolina High School League requires that all students have a physical on file before they can participate in any sport for the 2017-2018 school year. Attached are the locations and times for both April and May so that you can take your student athletes to have their sports physicals done. Please note that these physicals are quicker and cheaper than a normal visit ($20 v. $40). You must have all physical paperwork, which is also attached, complete and in hand at the time of the appointment. Furthermore, a parent or guardian must be with the student. These do not take long and eliminates any stress before the next school year begins. If your student plans on playing one or multiple sports next year, I highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity, regardless of where you’ll be. Lastly, please DO NOT submit these to the school until their athletic season begins. We will be transitioning to a paperless system in Fort Mill schools that requires documents to be uploaded via a phone application to Planet High School. I’ll host training sessions for individual sports next year, as well as post directions to the athletic website.
Night of the Timberwolves:
This year the athletic department, our coaches, and the Athletic Booster Club at BTMS plan to honor our athletes a little differently than in years past. Night of the Timberwolves is scheduled for May 4th at Banks Trail from 4:00-7:00 in the cafeteria and gymnasium. We plan on providing all BTMS and Timberwolf high school athletes a free pasta dinner on behalf of the Booster Club. While eating students will enjoy a slide show of athletic photos provided by our Yearbook and Photography clubs from throughout the year. Parents and guardians are invited but not required to attend the awards ceremony immediately following in the gymnasium. Coaches will present participation certificates, as well as three different awards to their student-athletes: The Coach’s Award, The Hustle Award, and The Timberwolf Award. Afterwards, we will announce the athletes who will be inducted into our student-athlete hall of fame for the 2016-2017 school year. Finally, the male and female athlete of the year will be announced. With the time that remains students are welcome to have fun and socialize briefly for one final time on the athletic fields or the gymnasium. We hope this will be easier on everyone and more informal, while still recognizing the accomplishments of some amazing student athletes.
