December Updates
SMMHS Families:
Winter sports are under way and our boys and girls basketball teams are working hard. Unfortunately we did not have enough interest for wrestling and we had to cancel the season for this year. Games begin on December 6th. Reminder that in order to attend a game you must have a ticket. All students on the team will get 4 tickets for each home game and 2 tickets for away games. Tickets will be given to players on Friday's for the following weeks games. In order to get into a game you must have a ticket from a player/coach and pay $5.00. Masks will also be required. Please contact Mr. Femi with any questions.
Attendance- TCPS strongly discourages families from scheduling vacations during the school year. If a student will be absent due to a vacation, the principal must be notified of the dates in advance. While those absences will still be coded unlawful, prior notification will eliminate them from being counted towards potential court action. This applies to five days per school year as long as the student has not exceeded the attendance standards prior to the request. The TCPS attendance policy (10.2 AR) are in effect for all students. Please remember every 6 tardies adds up to one day absent. If your student(s) is a car rider/driver please make sure they are arriving on time. Doors open at 7:35 and students must be in class by 7:45. Reminder- Too many tardies will impact participation in extra curricular activities.
Illness-We appreciate those that have been in contact with us when your student is sick. Due to all of your help, our numbers have drastically decreased. THANK YOU for being cautious to keep everyone safe. Please let Tracy Batley, our school nurse know if your child is awaiting a COVID test result. They must remain home until they receive a negative test result. A copy of the test result should be sent to Tracy Batley. To keep everyone safe, TCPS follows strict guidelines from the Talbot County Health Department on quarantine procedures when a student is sick or exhibits COVID symptoms. Please make sure to provide a doctor's note or parent note (only 5 parent notes per semester) to Ms. Kelly (kschlesner@talbotschools.org) if your child is absent for any reason. If your student is quarantined, please have your student check their FROG page for work and stay in contact with their teachers via email. Teachers can set up a ZOOM with your student if they need assistance.
Test to stay- Parents will have the option of test to stay for unvaccinated students who are considered to be a close contact to a positive case but were masked. You will be notified by the school nurse if this is an option for your child. Please make sure you have read the updated quarantined guidelines that were sent out on 11/22. Guidelines are attached below.
