Strength Training
Teaching With Your Strengths
Game Plan for Thursday, August 8th, 11:45 in the Cafeteria
As we prepare to tee off to a great year, we are going to use the book, Teach with Your Strengths, as a resource to understand and build upon our strengths. In the book, the author states,
"All great teachers are alike in a key way - they use their natural talents to the utmost, whether they are aware of it or not. What's more, great teachers don't waste time on their weaknesses if those weaknesses don't interfere with their teaching, although they do manage weaknesses if they must. When good teachers understand their talents, then build on those talents to create strengths, they become even better with students. That's what this book is all about."
- Go to the website: Strengths Finder Assessment (www.strengthsfinder.com) to complete the survey to understand your strengths.
- The assessment will consist of a series of personality questions.
- There are no right or wrong answers and the assessment is designed to prevent you from overthinking your responses. The purpose of the assessment is to reveal your unique dominant strengths. This activity will enhance your awareness of your own innate talents and strengthen how you can intentionally use those talents in the future. Remember, don't overthink the questions!
- The results are not forwarded to anyone. The findings are for your review only. If you choose to work with the campus instructional coach during the year, the strengths finder report could be a great resource to utilize.
- After you complete your assessment, you will receive a report of your "Signature Themes" which represent your top five themes of talent.
- Review the report and bring the report with you on Thursday at 11:45 in the cafeteria.
- More information will be coming about accessing your strengths. For now, the most important thing to do is complete the survey, review the report and print out your report.
We will refer to the book during the year. As the author will tell us, we are "born with talents, but strengths are earned. You have to add knowledge and skill to your talents to build strengths." Whether a par, birdie or an eagle, understanding and developing our strengths will drive our course for a successful year!
