A Note from our Principal, Mrs. Walk
Hello Trebein Parents,
I hope you enjoyed some quality time with your sweet children over break. As we move into the second half of the year, we tend to see significant growth throughout the next few months! Students know routines, have basic concepts mastered, and are ready to dig deeper into content and think more critically in all areas. It is an exciting time for both students and educators!
The next chapter in our book, Thrivers, by Michele Borba Ed.D. looks at the topic of Curiosity. Curiosity is what helps children to be open to possibilities and motivates them to learn - both inside the classroom and beyond it. Students with greater curiosity have greater academic success than less curious peers. This character strength inspires children to think in new ways, make discoveries, explore ideas, and follow their passions. Curiosity makes children's lives interesting and provides necessary skills to thrive in a challenging world.
Here are a few things to consider:
C - Child driven - The activity piques the child's interest or passion.
U - Unmanaged - The child, not the adult, is planning, structuring, or directing the learning.
R - Risky - The task is a little uncertain and a bit out of the child's comfort zone.
I - Intrinsic - The activity is driven by the child from the inside out and not motivated by a reward.
O - Open ended - The end is unknown and there's more than one answer or possibility.
U - Unusual - The task is novel, with the chance to explore or experience the unknown.
S - Solitude - There is time to contemplate, daydream, and gather thoughts or rejuvenate.
The top five takeaways from this chapter are:
1. Curiosity flourishes with open-ended, hands-on, child-guided opportunities.
2. Children must feel supported by adults to deviate from the norm and be creative.
3. Kids are more likely to think outside the box and take creative risks when not rewarded.
4. Curiosity and peak performance are driven by passion: help your children find their passions.
5. When people collaborate and build on one another's work, curiosity increases.
Thank you for your continued support from home...it makes all the difference!

Notes from the Office
As the second semester begins, we wanted to share a few reminders with you regarding parent pick-up and drop off.
Drop-Off:
Please let your students exit your vehicle anywhere along the sidewalk. Please do not wait until you are near the front entrance as this slows the process substantially. Please keep in mind that students are to be in their classrooms at 9:10 or they are counted tardy. The drop-off line moves quickly most days and there should be no reason for anyone to be late to class due to traffic.
Pick-Up:
Please bring a sign with your family's last name on it. If you need a sign you are welcome to create your own or email Mrs. Durham (andrea.durham@gocreek.org) and she will get one made for you. Displaying the sign expedites the process of calling for students. If you are waiting on your child to arrive, please move to the side to allow other families to pick up while you wait. Once your child has exited the building to you, please head directly to your vehicle. We've seen an increase in people congregating near the the drop off area, kids jumping off the concrete platform, and unsafe behaviors in general. This causes the parent pick up area to be congested and creates confusion for the other students who are still waiting to be picked up.
Thank you so much for your help with these processes as we all work together to keep everyone safe.
Counselor's Corner
The beginning of the year is the perfect opportunity to discuss the importance of goal setting with your child. Reviewing topics such as planning, inspiration, and time management will help them set reasonable objectives for the new year.
An interesting way to help your child outline their goals is by creating a visual representation with them. Here’s how you can get started creating a vision board with your child.
