As a Leader in Me Lighthouse school we are always working to understand how we can improve. Please complete the survey below as part of an annual assessment to help all members of the school community (students, parents, and the adults who work at the school) understand how we're doing. Your responses will provide us with important information to help us become even better. All of your responses are completely anonymous. The survey should take you approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. Please try to respond to all items. Thank you!

Penny Wars
Hey student leaders!! I have a question for you, do you like dogs or cats? Well to let everyone know, bring in your change, and vote!! 1 penny counts as a point. We will count all of the points, and let you know who won. All donations go to an animal rescue that rescues dogs and cats. The penny war containers will be by the main entrance of the school! The Penny Wars will run from Monday, May 20th – Friday, May 24th. Organized by 5th grade student, Madeline R.

Gleaners Community Food Bank Cereal Drive
We will be collecting boxes of cereal from Monday, May 20th – Friday, May 31st. On the 31st, Gleaners will collect the cereal and then distribute it to children throughout Michigan who benefit from the free or reduced breakfasts and lunches during the school year but do not know where their next meal will come from over the summer. Last year, more than 29,000 servings of cereal were collected across the district and with your help, we hope to boost that number to more than 40,000. Boxes will be placed in the main lobby at Silver Springs. Please consider helping us end the summer hunger of hundreds of thousands of children in Michigan.

Under The Sea DDD Was An Enchanted Evening!
The Silver Springs Daddy Daughter Dance went swimmingly well THANKS to many people who donated their time, items for the dance, or participated in some way to make it a special evening for our girls and dads. First, thank you to Lindsay Laiacono and Inge Schimper for helping to organize the DDD and your fabulous display around the showcase to name just a few things! Thank you to John Eloff and his partner for being the amazing DJ’s who kept the girls dancing all evening. Thank you to Stacey Krautner for making the craft sea turtles. Thanks to Mrs. Tomasak and Mrs. Murphy who helped with all the stuff in the office. A BIG thanks for the MOMs who helped at the dance – Teri Jones, Stacey Griswold, Laura Nigoghosian, Inge Schimper, Kate Counts, and Lindsay Laiacono, and of course Mrs. Booth! It takes a lot of time and commitment to put on this event. It couldn’t happen without the help and donations of our generous families! You are FIN-TASTIC!

2019/2020 School Supply Kit Ordering Time!
We are into the 4th quarter of the school year now so ready or not, it's time to plan for next year!
The Northville Council of PTA's, in coordination with Silver Springs PTA, is again offering the Edukit School Supply Kit fundraiser. The lists have been developed by each of the grades as recommended supplies for your student. This fundraiser is completely optional and is only being offered as a convenient way to get all your supplies, as the Northville Public Schools provides the necessary supplies and materials for your child's successful school experience. If ordered by June 14th, the kits will be shipped directly (for free) to the school. After June 15th, kits will be shipped directly to your home for a nominal fee. Please contact Laurie Techko (lev1972@yahoo.com) with any questions.

Silver Springs Elementary Science Olympiad
Interested in exploring STEM through a hands-on and interactive approach? Science Olympiad provides one of the best environments to do just that. With 16 different events with varying areas of focus each year, elementary students have the ability to discover science through highly interesting and engaging material, such as learning about the stars that twinkle in the night sky or how to create a rocket out of a water bottle. Science Olympiad not only helps students expand their knowledge of scientific principles and phenomena but also allows them to acquire skills like teamwork, communication, and commitment that will prove to be invaluable in all aspects of life.
If you are interested in learning more about the program, feel free to fill out the following Google form and browse through the Wayne-Oakland Science Olympiad official website. The form will help us gauge the number of potential members and availability for an Open House in the fall of the next school year. If there are multiple students from the same family interested in the program, please fill out the form once per student.

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
7-Habits Take Home Activity for April
This month’s Habit: Habit 7 Sharpen the Saw
Due Date: May 31, 2019
Habit #7: Sharpen the Saw
What this means: Balance feels best. In order to maintain and increase effectiveness, we must renew ourselves in body, mind, heart and soul.
“I take care of my body by eating right, exercising, and getting sleep.”
“I find meaningful ways to help others.”
“I spend time with family and friends.”
“I learn in lots of ways and places, not just at school.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. Go for a walk.
2. Read a book.
3. Volunteer in your community.
4. Value the difference in others.
