Dear Noyes Families,
Happy December!
SNOW DAYS 2020-2021
It looks like we are facing a snowstorm this weekend. This seems a good time to ask you if you have heard the news about snow days this year. Well, we won’t be having the traditional sleep-in-late kind of snow days; they will now be “remote learning days.” The Department of Elementary and Secondary (DESE) authorized districts to shift to a fully remote learning day instead of canceling due to snow. We will keep the same daily schedule, but students would not come to school and teachers would be working from home. Please visit our website for inclement weather procedures.
MA TRAVEL ORDER APPLIES TO YOU TOO!
If your family leaves Massachusetts to stay at your second home in Vermont or you like to spend weekends skiing in New Hampshire, you still must still follow the MA Travel Order every time. Please read this detailed information. I strongly urge you not to travel out of state. We cannot allow students to return to school until these requirements are met should they travel out of Massachusetts.
REPORT CARDS/PARENT CONFERENCES
Our first-semester report cards will be available in the Aspen portal on January 29. We are piloting a new model with two elementary report cards per year (mid-year and end of year) and two mandatory parent conferences. The second parent conference dates will be in March.
SNOW GEAR INDEPENDENCE
As we face the cooler temperatures, students will need to be equipped with warm coats, gloves/mittens, hats, and eventually snow pants and snow boots. It is most helpful when children can independently put on their gear. This is especially important because we are trying to maintain our distance this year. We recognize this is most challenging for our younger students, but to the extent possible, please practice these skills with your children. We appreciate your help.
CHANGE IN LEARNING MODEL
Parents have asked about the potential of changing our Hybrid learning model due to the evolving pandemic situation. The District has created SPS COVID-19 Considerations for Change of Learning Models. This document outlines the approach and data that will be used as we respond to COVID cases in the schools. Shifting to a full remote learning model would be done with careful thought and consultation with DESE and the Board of Health. It is important to note, SPS currently does not have evidence of in-school transmission of the virus.
I hope the children can have a little fun in the snow on Saturday. Enjoy your weekend!
Best,
Annette Doyle
Thanks Officer Al!
Please consider contributing to a VIDEO SLIDESHOW and MEMORY BOOK that will be given to Officer Hutchinson. It's easy! Snap a picture of your student/students/family holding a sign with a message for Officer Hutchinson. Images can be emailed to Dee Tupta at cdtupta@gmail.com. . If you prefer, you can send a short video (less than 20 seconds please) and send it along to Ms. Tupta. Please submit your photo or video by Friday, December 11.
Officer Hutchinson has meant a lot to the SPS community, giving children the knowledge and information they need when handling tricky situations. He is always a friendly face in the schools, outside at pick up/drop off, and reading stories with Quaran "Story" Time on the Sudbury Police Facebook Page. Officer Hutchinson has been a driving force behind Sudbury's participation in the Special Olympics and has taught the fifth-grade STARS program for years.
We ask that you and your children try to keep this a surprise!
FLU VACCINE DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31
As a reminder, all students enrolled at Noyes (in-person AND remote) are required to provide evidence of getting a flu vaccine by December 31. Please email Noyes Nurse Carol Bradford at carol_bradford@sudbury.k12.ma.us with verification of this requirement, as well as any questions you might have related to the vaccine.
