Recent Events
Exciting events for our Yellow Jackets from mid-March to Mid-April:
Our students enjoyed being visited by a mischievous leprechaun (or being one) and making slime for St. Patrick's Day!
March was a month of transition visits. Our fifth graders visited Piney Grove Middle School to begin preparing for their transition this Fall. Our incoming kindergarten students came to visit their new school as well in March.
At the end of March, our 4th and 5th grades went on a fantastic field trip to our nation's capitol: Washington, D.C.! They saw the monuments and memorials, visited the Smithsonian Museums, the Capitol building, and the National Archives. It was a beautiful time of year to be in D.C. because the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
In April, we had the 5th Grade DARE Graduation and Reception. We would like to thank Sergeant Mary Ziglar for working with our students on this program. We would also like to thank Rick Hill, our guest speaker at the ceremony. Please be sure to check our Rick's video on You Tube: The Cost of a Carton of Beer- https://youtu.be/nXfwqoj1Km4. Congratulations to Sadie Vernon for winning the DARE Essay Contest.
Our students participated in the Stokes Soil & Water Conservation District Art Contest. This year’s theme was “Water…the Cycle of Life”. Our school level winners were 1st place- Ruben Stegich; 2nd place Adelynn Davis; and 3rd Place Sadie Aaron. Congratulations to these talented students!
The following students participated in the NCDOT Aviation Art Contest: Sadie Aaron, Coralyn Boles, Adelynn Davis, Grayson DeHart, Haley Duggins, Alex Knight, Kaylee Lawson, Caylee Mabe, Madison Marshall, Kennedie McPeak, Allyson Plummer, Lilly Smith, and Sadie Vernon. Of all of the entries across the state, Coralyn Boles's and Grayson DeHart's art placed at the semifinalist level; Madison Marshall's and Sadie Vernon's art placed at the quarterfinalist level. Congratulations to these talented students!
Erin Bohannon's and Sadie Vernon's art won first place for the VFW Patriotic Art Contest, sponsored by our local VFW Auxiliary, and their art will go on to the state level! Congratulations to both talented young ladies!
In the middle of April, we enjoyed Easter Egg Hunts and parties as well as a much deserved Spring Break! It was nice to spend time with family and recharge to come back and finish strong.
We are conducting Mock End of Grade Tests (EOGs) currently, to give teachers data on standards each student needs additional small group or individual instruction, in order to get ready for the EOGs in May. We want all students in grades 3-5 to be ready and confident in taking those tests and doing their best!
Friday, we held the 4th and 5th Grade 3rd Quarter Honor Club Breakfast for students and their families in those grades who achieved A/B Honor Roll for the third quarter.
We have a new team for our First and Second Grade Combo Class! Mrs. Leslie Ghoslin is now the teacher for the class and Ms. Ashlyn Moles is the TA! We are so excited to be fully staffed to finish the year and are so happy to have this team working with our students!

Live Music, Games, Bouncy Houses!
Other Concessions Available
No admission cost
It is VERY important that we pre-sell the BBQ chicken plates. The Port-a-Pit needs 440 pre-sold plates to come. That would be about four plates per student. We are encouraging students to sell six; however, we are offering an ICE CREAM PARTY to the homeroom that sells the most and a $50 PRIZE to the student who sells the most! So ask grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.! Money must be collected in advance. All orders and money are to be turned in by May 12. The flyer and order form are shown below. These were also sent home on one sheet front/back. Please let us know if you need an additional form or would like a flyer to post at a business. Plates may be picked up on May 20 as take-home or may be eaten on the grounds at the event. We encourage anyone who can to come to the Family Fun Day to enjoy the activities and see the improvements to our school grounds made possible through many donations and volunteers.
Any questions should be directed to:
Hannah Mabe, president
Summer Todd, vice president
Jessica Bennett, treasurer
Check out all of the improvements to the school grounds made possible by the PTA! Thank you to all volunteers and donations!!
