The Basics

Location: Southeast Europe and Southwest Asia borders the Black, Aegean, and Mediterranean Seas, along with Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, and Syria.

Weather/Climate Type: Temperate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters.

2 Physical Characteristics: The Taurus and Caucasus Mountains, and the Bosporus Strait, Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles Strait, which divide Europe and Asia.

How to fit in

Language(s): Turkish(official), Kurdish, other minority languages.
Folkways: Shake hand's with people, men and women kiss each other on the cheeks when meeting and parting, be punctual, make eye contact.
Taboos: For most of the population, eating pork (Turkey is 99% Muslim), standing with your hands on your hips, pointing the sole of your foot towards people.
Values: Deep commitment to family and religion, respect for elders.

Digging Deeper into Culture

2 Subcultures: Kurds, Christians
Culture Landscape:
Soccer and Basketball are popular sports, 94.9% literacy rate, lots of city dwellers.
Evidence of Culture Diffusion: Islam spread from Arabian peninsula to Turkey, which is now 99.8% Muslim.
Evidence of Culture Change: Turkey has become more Western, women have more rights, and Turkey has become more tolerant of minorities.
