Character Counts! Week

Character Counts! Week is the largest celebration of character worldwide. The program provides our youth a framework for positive living and making the right choices. Join the Indian Valley Character Counts! Coalition as we celebrate the character of ALL our community members during the week of October 21-25.

Wear the colors for each day of Character Counts! Week:

Monday: Purple for Citizenship

Tuesday: Green for Responsibility

Wednesday: No School

Thursday: Blue for Honesty

Friday: Red for Caring

Show the Indian Valley Character Counts! Coalition your character by posting photos of yourself wearing colors that represent the pillars of character on their social media channels.

Vernfield Honors Veterans Day!

Vernfield will be honoring veterans on Friday, November 8. Students are permitted to invite ONE veteran to attend our special Veterans Day program. An invitation and RSVP form will come home with students on Tuesday, 10/22 and is DUE ON WEDNESDAY 10/30.

There will be a slide show to honor those guests in attendance. In order for your child's guest to be included in the slide show, you must email/scan a photograph to Mrs. Kling ( no later than Wednesday, October 30. **We will not be able to accept photographs after this date.** If possible, please send the photo of the guest, in uniform, during his/her time of service. Also include your child's name, the guest's name, and the branch of service in the subject heading of the email.

Students will join their veteran-guest for refreshments at 9:00 am. This is a good time for pictures to be taken. The program will begin at 9:30. Students will return to their classroom immediately following the program. We will have reserved seating for our veterans.

Thanksgiving Meal Bags - Keystone Opportunity Center

The Vernfield Student Council would once again like to collect items for those in need. Our goal is to make two complete “bags” per classroom. The collection will run from November 1st-7th.

Teachers will assign or have the students choose a food item(s) to bring in. The food items needed for each "bag" are:

  • 13-16 oz box of instant mashed potatoes
  • Two 24 oz plastic jars of applesauce
  • Two cans of fruit (in juice)
  • One box of brownie or cookie mix bag
  • Two boxes of stove top stuffing
  • Two cans of green beans
  • Two cans of corn
  • One 1 pound bag of coffee
  • One small box of bisquick
  • Drink mix (powdered) of iced tea or lemonade

Thank you in advance for your contribution!

KidStuff books are still on back-order, but this doesn't stop us from being able to sell books now. Click here for an online preview of the KidStuff Book. There are two different online portals this year to help increase the availability of the KidStuff books to family and friends.

  1. To purchase books for Bucks, Montgomery, and Berks counties or to purchase books for family and friends for other counties that you will then hand deliver to them, use the following link:

  2. If your family and friends would like to purchase books for other states/counties, they can use the following link and the book will be shipped directly to them:

      * Note that this option results in a 40% profit and Option 1 results in a 50% option.

Thanks to everyone for your patience. If you have any questions, please contact Betsy Powlus at

The HSA has partnered with Got Sneakers for an Athletic Shoe Drive to raise funds and to help keep the shoes out of landfills. New or used sneakers in wearable condition will earn more for us but we will be accepting sneakers and cleats in any condition. Sneakers with rips, holes, separated soles will be recycled. Shoe donations will be accepted until the Thanksgiving break.
