Christmas in Africa!!!

It is sunny and hot on Christmas

The History and Traditions in Africa

They celebrated Christmas because of Jesus's Birth-day. Jesus's Birth-day was the most important part of Christmas. At 8 or 9 o'clock everyone goes to the celebration of the Birth of Jesus. After the celebration families set up food in front of their house and then they eat with family and friends.

They went caroling up and down the village, people were woke up by the carolers. When they went caroling they usually sung Christmas Carols by Candlelight. On Christmas Eve children would walk up and down the streets singing Christmas carols and shouting “Christ is coming! Christ is coming! He is near!” When they went to the celebration of the birth of Jesus and if you didn’t bring a gift then you couldn’t go. Sometimes people would go camping when they were on Christmas break.

Their Symbols, Decorations, Their Santa Names, and the Presents They Received and Got

For their decorations they used pine branches. A Christmas tree with presents around it. The children will hang the stockings at night. Sometimes it will be sunny on Christmas so they will have flowers. They had sweets, Christmas trees, presents, stockings, ornaments, flowers, and more symbols.

He does leave gifts. He puts them under the Christmas Tree (all around). His names are Sinterklaas and Kervader. He puts things in people’s stockings, too.

What they ate

It was a tradition to either have turkey (or duck), roast beef, mice pies, suckling pig with yellow rice and raisins. They also had vegetables, plum pudding, and crackers. They had special pudding that was called either malva pudding or lekker pudding. If it is hot outside then they would have a BBQ. They wear paper hats when they eat.
