Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
December 9, 2022
We had a full week at the Lab! I loved seeing our 5th graders fine tune for their winter concerts next week, our Kindergartners learning more sounds to decode words, and all students in-between growing in their skills and knowledge. Mrs. Kiewe, Mrs. Nicholson, and I also visited Dumbarton Middle School this week to work with DMS to plan for a smooth articulation for our students. We will also meet with Ridgley. These meetings help us continue to refine our efforts to prepare students for success in middle school.
We have a lot on tap for next week! Vision and hearing screenings begin next week (see attached letter for more information). We also have a couple in-school performances of our Winter Concert and the following special events:
Monday: Skate Night (6p Putty Hill Skateland)
Tuesday: 5th Grade Winter Concert (7p LL Auditorium)
Wednesday: Patapsco Show Choir assembly (10-10:30 and 10:40-11:10)
Remember that Mrs. Kiewe's Mitten Tree is up in the lobby and we are taking donations of new hats, scarves, and gloves to donate to those in need. See the attached letter for more details.
We are also seeking magazine donations -- particularly magazines for children such as Sports Illustrated for Kids, Time for Kids, The Week Junior, Highlights, etc. If you have an old issues of these magazines you no longer need. Please send them in to school and have your child bring them to the office.
Next week is a full five day week. The week of December 19th we have a half-day on Thursday December 22nd, with a 1:05 dismissal marking the beginning of winter break. The 21st is a holiday wear spirit day -- students can dress in something to represent a holiday they celebrate, and the 22nd is a schoolwide pajama day to send us in to break.
Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing our Leopards again on Monday!

BCPS Virtual Instruction Days During Inclement Weather
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is providing local school systems with the option to repurpose inclement weather days as virtual school days. The BCPS draft plan was presented to the Board of Education on October 11 and then submitted to MSDE for approval. MSDE approved BCPS' plan on November 10.
These virtual instruction days will count towards the minimum required days of instruction under Maryland law. The Virtual Inclement Weather Day Plan applies to the 2022-2023 school year only.
