Parent Peek at the Week
Week of January 20th, 2020
In case you missed it.....
Mrs. Sampson was thrilled to have the chance to spend half a day with this amazing group of leaders in Grades 4, 5 and 6. Students learned so much about how to engage younger children in active, safe and fun play at recess. Look for Recess Guardians on our yard in the next week or so!
Zones of Regulation
Did you know....that you can NEVER know all there is to know about self-regulation and Zones?! Over the coming weeks, several classes will be continuing our learning about this important life skill. This new bulletin board outside Mr. Davies office reminds us of what feelings are in each zone, and what strategies we can use to get back to feeling green.
The Little Hummingbird
Mrs. Rees' class read The Little Hummingbird, and then took inspiration to create their own artwork using organic shapes. The results are beautiful!

Some important information for this week....
Mrs. Sampson was thrilled to have the chance to work with 28 of our amazing Junior students in the Recess Guardians training. It was such a positive and heart warming experience! She will be working to set up teams this coming week. Our hope is to have the Guardians on the yard by mid-week to start their great work together.
Job Action Update
Many parents have contacted the school with concerns about strike action. Please remember that ETFO must give 5 business days warning before there is a strike. We will continue to communicate any new information in a timely fashion. Our board website (www.kprdsb.ca) also has updates as they are available. As of the time of the posting of this weekly news, there has NOT been an announcement of full strike action that would affect our school.
End of Day Pick-up Time
Thank you to all the families who have been working to make our morning drop off time safer for our students and community. We're now asking for this same support at the end of the day. Please pay close attention to the bus loading zone area. You may be tempted to park in front of the bus when it's loading, but this does not give Patricia enough room to move into the line of traffic when leaving. There is usually lots of room in the back parking lot - please consider having your child(ren) meet you there when possible. Thank you for all your support in keeping our students safe!
Code of Conduct and Bully Prevention and Intervention Plan
Thank you to staff and School Council who provided input into these two important documents. They will be posted soon on our school website for your reference.
Hot lunch orders
We are thrilled to finally be able to offer hot lunches! This is being done through a third party provider, so no orders or money come through the office. Starting Monday, we will alternate between Boston Pizza and Subway each week. Parents have until 12pm on Sunday to place an order. Please see the information below or go to lunchboxorders.com and create an account. Boston Pizza orders start this Monday!
Kawartha Heights Cougar Challenge
Have you noticed a new look to our front hallway display case? In order to try to support and engage parents in math at home, we have a new cougar poster that will house 3 math questions every few weeks (kindergarten, primary and junior levels). Families will be encouraged to complete the math questions at home - and then send their responses to the office to be entered for a math family prize. Here's what it looks like right now......our first challenge will come to families next week!
Kindergarten Registration is now open!
Families: now’s the time to register your child for Kindergarten! If your child will turn four before the end of December, make sure you register online at www.kprschools.ca/kindergarten
We also encourage you to take advantage of the Kindergarten Information Session to be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10 – Otonabee Valley PS, 580 River Rd. S., Peterborough
The sessions are free, and pre-registration is required, to ensure sufficient take-home resources for every participating family. The evening will offer you a peek into the Kindergarten classroom and give you resources to help prepare your child for school. You also will be able to meet with community agencies and partners that serve families in your area.
If Internet access is a problem for you, give us a call at the school and we’ll be glad to outline the Kindergarten registration process for you.
