2023 February Issue

Greetings from Principal Rowell

We welcome February and are grateful that we have had a rather mild winter thus far. Our hope is that the second semester brings the relief that there is a restart, and that every student is again given the opportunity to do their best each and every day.

February also brings with it a stark reminder that we are entering the assessment window for all grade levels, from the ACT to Pre-ACT, MAPs testing and the Forward exams. For me personally, this time of the year sparks a visual of being at the top of a ski hill. I am reminded of the saying “it’s all downhill from year”, and what really resonates with me is that it happens so quickly. In the blink of an eye we will be graduating our seniors and celebrating the success of another school year.

We want to thank our Kohler School Friends - PTO for organizing a supply buffet for staff. We send a genuine heartfelt thank you to our families for showing their support by giving very generous donations. Our staff could feel the love and felt appreciated.

Parent teacher conferences are being held on February 14 and 16, 2023, from 3:30pm-6:00pm. The adjusted timeframe is due to both our basketball teams having a game, so if able, please plan to come out to support our student athletes. Families will be able to sign up for 10 minute time slots during the week of February 6 through their Skyward Parent Portal. As a reminder, sign up will be closed at 8am on the day of each of the conferences. If you need to schedule a time, and the window to sign up has closed, please contact the teacher(s) directly via email.

Thank you to the families who came to the Brian Williams presentation on Kindness. The message he shared was tailored to all grade levels and was powerful, and well received based on student and parent feedback. Brian shared with our student body how one small act of kindness can change the world. Our focus as a MS/HS is in two areas: improving sportsmanship and the shoe challenge that is being led by our National Honor Society.

We are also working diligently with student representatives to welcome back a 2015 Kohler graduate for a presentation to both schools. He has spent some time in Zambia where he lived and worked and ultimately published the book, “Under a Zambian Tree” that will be released later this year.

Enjoy our newsletter and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. Our goal is to partner with families and work collaboratively to provide the best educational experience for all our students.

From the desk of Ms. Nachreiner - High School Counselor

I can’t believe how fast the first semester went. I think by now we are all dreaming of warmer weather. This month, I want to share a bit about what I have been working on behind the scenes. The ACP (Academic and Career Planning) team and I have been diligently working on an updated Academic and Career Plan to implement next year.

We find it incredibly important to provide our students with all of the information, resources, and knowledge they need to make decisions for their future.

Senior parents - please continue to urge your students to check the scholarship spreadsheet. They all have access and I add new scholarships almost every day.

If your student is interested in attending the World Affair Seminar at Carroll University June 24-June 30, please contact me so I can assist in the registration process. This year's topic is Climate Change. This seminar is open to Junior and Senior students.

February Bomber Athletic and Activities

It is hard to believe, but the end of the winter season is coming to an end and the spring season is right around the corner. Our teams play with a lot of heart, and it should be fun to see how they all do in the postseason this year. We have had great crowds at our events! We hope to continue to fill our stands, but I do ask that all spectators follow the Kohler core values and be respectful, responsible, and safe when at events. We want to be a welcoming environment for all and want to be known for the great, kind, community that Kohler is.

Girls Basketball

The girl's basketball team is currently 5th in the Big East Conference. The varsity team has a record of 5-14, and the JV team continues to dominate on the court and has a winning record. The varsity team recently had a major win over Sheboygan Christian with a come-from-behind victory! The Lady Blue Bombers are a group that never gives up and always plays until the end. They only have five more games left until the start of playoff play! Best of luck to them the rest of the season and best of luck in the Playoffs!

Big picture

Boys Basketball

The boy's basketball team is currently in 1st place in the Big East Conference. The varsity team has a record of 15-3, and the JV/JV-2 teams continue to improve each week! The team only has six more games left until they start playoff play. Best of luck to the team the rest of the season and in the playoffs!

Kohler Kindness Spotlight

A big shout-out to Claudia Herold who helped with the cleanup of the student section after a basketball game. Claudia did this without being asked and did it to be kind. We are very proud of our students like Claudia who follow the Kohler core values of being respectful, responsible, and safe!
