End-of- the-Year-Party/Celebration - Update and Stay Tuned.
As a staff planning group, we are meeting next week to confirm a date in May or June. The plan will be to have 5 rotations where students will spend approximately 30 minutes at each. The stations would comprise: bounce house/inflatables and playground equipment, cookout/picnic, relays/Playworks games, indoor memory-making/class bonding/reflection activities, and a class vs teachers/parents game of kickball or something similar.
We are letting you know now to give an advance heads up of how this plan is changing from year's past. Once the date is confirmed next week, we will send out a volunteer form to our families. If you're interested in helping out for a particular part of this day or all of the day, you will be able to indicate how you can help!
Placement Requests for 2018-2019 School Year
Here is information about the Placement Request process, should you choose to make a request for your child next year.
First, we DO NOT honor requests for a specific teacher, as staffing changes can occur throughout the summer. Staffing is based on student enrollment which changes throughout the summer months. Staff are often hired during the summer months due to vacancies, and at times, this can cause internal shifting as well. Finally, as decisions are made when placing students, it is the entire class make-up that is taken into account. The NSE staff are deliberate and thorough throughout this decisioning process looking at all contributing factors, including: gender, class size, as well as academic, social and emotional needs.
That said, you are welcome to write a letter of request that is based on or shares:
- A desired teaching style/approach
- Your input regarding what is a "best fit" for your child
Letters of request should be sent to the office by Friday, June 1st
M-Step Testing
M-Step Testing Windows:
- 5th Grade: April 9th-May 4th
- 3rd and 4th Grade: April 30th-May 25th
Students are tested in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Additionally, students in 5th Grade will be tested in the area of Science and Social Studies.
Attendance is very important during these testing days! Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time and try to avoid early dismissals during the testing days. If your child is unable to come to school, we will have scheduled days for students to make up testing during the testing period.
Please assist your child in helping to perform his/her best by:
Having your child get a good night's sleep.
Having your child eat a good breakfast, packing water, and healthy snacks.
Encouraging your child to do their best and assisting to relieve any anxiety associated with testing. Positive, "You can do it", messages are helpful :)
Should you have any questions about M-Step testing, please contact your child's teacher. We thank you for helping to prepare your child for the M-Step and ensuring attendance during the testing periods.
Alpha Club is Sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive
Alpha Club is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on
Thursday, May 3rd from 3:00-9:00 p.m. in our school cafeteria.
Please donate if you can!
This event will impact our regular dismissal routine for students who are picked up by a parent:
Our Kindergarten students will dismiss from our Main Hallway/Entrance. Parents picking up their child, should enter the Main Doors and meet their child in the hallway with their teacher to pick up.
1st-5th Grade students getting picked up by a parent, will exit out of the Main Hallway/Doors and onto the sidewalk where they will be picked up as usual.
Again, our bus riders and walkers will follow their normal dismissal routine.
IF YOUR CHILD ATTENDS KIDS CONNECTION, he/she will be in the Media Center for pick up.

Student Information System - ParentVue
The ParentVue portal is an important part of our Student Information System. In this portal parents can view their child’s attendance, transportation information, academic progress, and update important student information like phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc. As we continue to work toward paperless communications, please plan to use ParentVue regularly.
It is important that you take the time to set up and activate your account if you have not already done so. You will need an activation key to do this. Here’s how:
1. Email SynergySupport@clarkston.k12.mi.us to request an activation key. Provide the following information in your email:
Your Name
Your Student(s) Name
Your Student(s) Date Of Birth
Your Home Address
Your Phone Number
Also, please make sure to take some time to review the information in ParentVue and make sure that we have the most accurate and updated information, particularly phone numbers and emergency contacts. To access ParentVue (once you have activated your account):
Go to the Clarkston Schools’ webpage www.clarkston.k12.mi.us
Choose the Resources tab and then select ParentVue
