Life Skills Class Trip
This week the students in the Life Skills class took a Community Based Instruction Trip SIMCO-Ion in Hatfield for a factory tour. SIMCO-Ion is a community partner with the Life Skills class that provides authentic work for the students. The students work together to complete vocational kits throughout the week and deliver their work to SIMCO each Friday. The students build employability skills such as team work, work ethic, functional academics, quality control and communication skills while completing these kits. This factory tour helped the students learn where their work is going and how they are contributing to our community. This trip also tied in nicely with our Social Studies Unit in which we were learning about trading goods. Much of the SIMCO work that the students work on is getting sent to different states and countries around the world which allowed the students to learn that they are a part of globalization.
