Happy Saturday, Bobcat Families! This week was truly an honor and joy to be a Bobcat. Five 5th graders - Ameerah, Gian Pierre, Natasha, Mason, and Samantha competed in GPS's Battle of the Books against TEN other elementary schools and WON THIRD PLACE! Their hard work, dedication, and passion led them to this moment. Sitting in the audience at the Greenwich Library brought tears to my eyes - proud does not begin to describe the feeling. Thank you to the teachers who made this event possible and THANK YOU to the families who partnered with us along the way. What a fabulous culmination of learning and commitment. Congratulations to all!
Next week, we look forward to watching our 3rd graders perform in their orchestra concert on Friday at 8:45am at New Lebanon School. World Read Aloud Day is Wednesday - students will be celebrating in their classrooms with read alouds from around the world! We also kick off our "Rock Your Socks Off" February (scroll down for more information).
We can't forget our IB Learner Profile Trait of the month for February is CARING! How will you be CARING to yourself and others? What does being caring look like in your home? Ask your child what they did to care for another person at school today!

New Parent Chat dates and great resources for you at home - Pre-K, K, and 1st Families Welcome!
Parent Chat- New Lebanon Media Center (Maker Space)
Monday, Jan. 30th, 8:30-9:30am
Dear Families,
We realize that raising a young child can provide you with many challenges. It is our hope to support you by providing regularly scheduled “Parent Chats” giving us all the opportunity to share successes and challenges we are experiencing at home.
My role as an Early Childhood Specialist and Parent Educator is to facilitate and support you in developing strategies to help you and your child at home. We will provide you with lots of resources and ideas that are easily used at home.
Come listen to other parents who are dealing with many of the same challenges and find ways to make life easier at home!
Topics can include, but are not limited to:
*Why doesn't my child listen to me?
*How should I respond when my child does not listen to me?
*Why won’t my child go to bed?
*Why will my child only eat chicken nuggets and fries?
*How can I get my children to stop fighting?
*Why can’t we seem to get out of the house in the morning?
*How can I support my child’s learning at home?
*How can I help my child learn to calm down when they are feeling big emotions?
Each chat will be an hour long and include a specific topic based on input from all of you with 20 minutes at the end to tackle other challenges you bring to us that day.
Please let me know if you would like a translator to be available. A google meet link can be set up if you would like to join remotely. Please email me to let me know.

Student Leadership Invites you participate in some school-wide FUN!
Wednesday, February 1st: Come to school wearing your favorite socks! This will launch New Leb's Rock Your Socks February! We will be collecting donations of new socks for the whole month. Donations will be made to homeless shelters in Port Chester and Stamford.
**This sock drive will be done in partnership with a group of Kindergarten girls who are in a Daisy Troop (led by NL parent, Colleen Wood Smith).
Friday, February 10th: Wear your pajamas to school and make a donation of $1.00 for Pediatric Cancer. A GHS 11th grader named Sophie Lenschow is a pediatric cancer survivor. Last year she had 5 schools in Greenwich participate in this cause and was able to raise $12,000!!! This year, Sophie is asking for all schools in Greenwich to participate. Let's help this cancer survivor/activist raise awareness and money for all the children who are battling cancer.

There are fabulous math videos and IXL resources that are located on the K-8 Curriculum web page for mathematics. The videos provide examples of what and how concepts are taught in each lesson. The IXL practice is a way to reinforce skills at home!
Attention Grade 5 Parents
In order to provide input for your student’s middle school placement in ELA, Math, and Science, we give you an opportunity to provide the committee with your insights via our Parent Input Form. Before completing the form, we highly recommend reviewing the Transition Information for Parents. Please note: completion of this form does not guarantee placement into the selected courses.
