Three Main Topics Recommended for Current/Future Actions
Regional Presentation
- Review the business models of other successful career centers focused on educating high school students
- Organize a half day event and include representatives from the identified successful programs to present to a Saginaw County audience
- Invite area superintendents
- Invite the CTE: Endless Opportunities group as well as other interested individuals
- Dan suggested a matrix be developed for information analysis purposes to include: enrollment numbers, programs, financial support model, geographic travel times, etc.
- Kathy Stewart will contact Jackson, Kent, and Traverse City, set a date, share the matrix, and create and disseminate an invitation to the event.
Bay Arenac Career Center Program and Funding Questions
- Does Bay Arenac share any of the collected CTE millage revenues with LEAs?
- What share of the costs for Bay Arenac CTE programs are covered by the millage?
- Do LEAs contribute funds to the BA CTE programs?
- Do LEAs continue offering local CTE programs? If so, are millage funds shared?
- Are transportation costs covered to and from BA CTE programs?
- Kathy Stewart will seek the information requested.
Millage Discussion
- Need to determine position of city schools (Kathy Stewart will seek an appointment with Mr. McClain)
- Consider developing a millage interest survey (Linda Sims and Kathy Stewart will discuss). Chip Hendrick suggested contacting Banich, Banich, and Cassidy while Linda Sims shared that SVSU would have the capacity to assist as well.
- If there is interest in a county wide millage, teams will need to form to: 1) develop an organizational plan for the use of the revenue resources; 2) educate parents regarding the career technical education opportunities associated with high demand/high wage jobs; etc.
