Happy Wednesday, Panther families!
Happy (almost) Fall Break! I hope you all have something fun and relaxing to do while enjoying this special three weeks with your kiddos.
Thank you to those of you who are showing safety, respect and responsibility in our parking lot and on the road. Your kindness in allowing others to pull in front of you is not going unnoticed!
Construction at Penngrove is gearing up! Over Fall Break, concrete will be poured and our new, temporary portable buildings will be placed so teachers can move in over Winter Break! We are very excited at the prospect of all these changes occurring so soon!
Have a wonderful break, Penngrove! See you in October!
Stay awkward, brave and kind!

Question of the week from Principal Harp
Each week, I will be sending out a question with which you will be given the opportunity to engage in a new conversation with your child. We all know how hard it is to draw out responses other than, "nothing" or "fine" when we ask "What did you do today?" or "How was school?" Be sure to use open ended follow-up questions and statements such as "Tell me more about that!" or "What did you think of that?" Please ask your student(s) the question below, share their response with us and make our day! You can submit more than one response! (No need to put names or identifying words.)
A memory that I am grateful for is

The seasons are changing! We are discussing the Autumnal Equinox and why farmers need to know all about outer space in the garden. The Equinox is on Thursday the 22 it is when the sun crosses the celestial equator causing the day and the night to be the same length a special time that happens twice a year at the start of Fall and Spring. What changes take place in your home during the Equinox? We like to slow down and sleep more, get cozy with the kitties in blanket burritos and remember how much rest our bodies really need. Continue the conversation with your student this week as we head into a much deserved break.
I will be holding a work day over Fall Break to utilise a $2000 grant we received that will be used to re-do the garden classroom to make the seating better for the younger students and make it so I can accommodate all the older students in this space for rainy days out in the garden. We will be moving our seed starting bench out and making it into a greenhouse, purchasing stools and reconfiguring the classroom. If you would like to come lend a hand it would be very much appreciated! Bring the kids and let them play on the playground on Tuesday October 11th from 10-3.
I hope you and your families enjoy your break and enjoy the rest of the harvest time of year. As always I am grateful for being able to be outside with the children sharing my love for all things garden and nature.
With gratitude,
Ms. Ortiz

Walk and Roll October Challenge!
I know, I know... Penngrove is not set up in the best way for students to walk and roll to school. HOWEVER... I have a challenge for you for National Walk and Roll month! We are setting up a "walking school bus" on October 26th. Students and families can meet at Penngrove Park at 7:45 for TK/K families and 8am for 1-6th grade families, and walk as a group to school that day! Get some friends together to meet, walk and enjoy each other's company, plus get in some steps and fresh air, all while avoiding our parking lot! I'll meet you there and we'll have prizes for students who walk!
