Here's what's happening in MS this week!

ENGLISH
6th Grade: We will continue our work with Book Clubs this week. We’re halfway done! We will have a grammar quiz on sentences/fragments on Thursday. Our writing this week will focus on character development.
7th Grade: We will continue our work with Book Clubs this week. Only two meetings left! We will have a grammar quiz on semicolons on Thursday. Our writing focus this week will be writing claims and evidence for argumentative writing.
8th Grade: We will continue reading The Outsiders read nonfiction articles that pair well with the story. Our grammar focus this week is identifying the different types of pronouns.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We have wrapped up our Population unit and are moving on to Migration and Movement. In this unit, we will be discussing why people migrate to other countries, why people engage in trading, and how cultural ideas are diffused among different places.
7th Grade: We have wrapped up our Population unit and are moving on to Migration and Movement. In this unit, we will be discussing why people migrate to other countries, why people engage in trading, and how cultural ideas are diffused among different places.
8th Grade: The quiz over the Louisiana Purchase and Lewis and Clark Expedition has been moved to Monday, February 5th. We will also be studying life after the War of 1812. Our topics include an increased sense of nationalism, a boom in industry, and discrimination faced by people groups.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders had a quiz on Friday over rates, ratios and unit rates. This week we will begin making predictions and using rates to solve problems. Expect a chapter test on Friday. Any corrections or retakes need to be done as soon as possible on any quizzes or tests.
7th Grade: 7th graders took a module test last week and we spent a day going over corrections as needed in class. Some did not finish so expect to see corrections coming home. This week we will be covering inequalities and how to solve inequalities in a variety of ways. We will have a quiz towards the end of the week.
8th Grade: On Monday and Tuesday we will be reviewing for our Chapter 7 module test which is on Wednesday. Students have been working hard at solving multi step algebra problems! At the end of the week we will begin our unit on solving systems of equations.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: Students should have finished their research and should be beginning to gather their materials for their science fair projects. They are to be working on their project at home or bringing the required materials to complete them during school next week. Please check with your student to make sure they are working on their project.
7th Grade: Students should be completing their science fair projects at home or bringing the required materials to complete them during school next week. Please check with your student to make sure they are getting the required tasks done. They should be working on them outside of school! Our next quiz will be Monday on 3.1 Living Things.
8th Grade: Students should have finished their research and should be beginning to gather their materials for their science fair projects. Please check with your student to make sure they are working on their project. We are also studying oceanography with some classroom activities.
