PHS Update
November 5th, 2018
Heading into the Last Grading Period
It's November. Brrr! Probably highs in the mid 70s this week! This update will go out to parents in mid afternoon tomorrow - if you have items for the community, please send to me in the a.m.
This week features the Financial Aid Rally on Monday, PTSA meeting Monday evening, Election Day on Tuesday (PHS is a polling station), PLC/PLN Wednesday and Ca$h for College Night, and Site Council Thursday.
The football season came to an end at Encinal Saturday evening. All in all, a solid season for the Trojans, but I'm sure they were hoping to move on in the playoffs. Still, well done to all the boys, the coaching staff, and the parents for their commitment and effort.
Don't forget to calendar Cinderella Waltz, brought to you by the Troy Performers, coming in November (see poster).
Have a great week!
Sports Corner
Well, the Trojans had a strong season overall, even though the final two games didn't finish the way they'd hoped. The Encinal Jets were too tough in the air on Saturday and the Trojans just couldn't find a way to stop them.
The Egg Bowl was also a tough loss. Though the Trojans moved the ball up and down the field at will and dominated the time of possession, and though they punched it in in the final minute and tacked on the two point conversion, there was still time for the Gauchos to score and then go ahead with a similar two point conversion. A memorable game that reminds us that a good crosstown rivalry makes both our schools better.
Well done, Coach Krist and all our Trojans. Huge applause for the whole PHS football community, the coaching staff, parents, trainers, and of course, the boys who worked so hard and left it all on the field.

Girls Golf
On Monday, October 29th, the team competed in the NCS Division 1 championships at Tilden Park in Berkeley. Lilly Catarozoli was low score for th Trojans with a solid 96. Also competing were Channing Matthews, Olivia Zimmerman, Mya Brook, Kalea Howe and Simone Smith.
Great season for the Trojans! VVAL Champs!

Tomorrow's Leaders Today Ag Day
October 23rd was Ag Day at Tomorrow’s Leaders Today (TLT), and through our partnership with the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, students were introduced to the diversity of local agriculture in Sonoma County.
This week, nearly 75 students started the day meeting leaders from the Santa Rosa Original Certified Farmers Market, Hector’s Honey, Costeaux French Bakery and the Sonoma County Farm Bureau. Then, they loaded a bus and toured several farms and ranches where they learned about sustainable farming practices, multi-generational business operations, crop rotations, career pathways in the industry and the significant impact the agriculture industry has in Sonoma County.
The best part of the day was the hand-on experiences, and here are some highlights:
We milked a cow and bonded with one-day old calves at McClelland's Dairy, shucked and ate oysters at Bodega Bay Oyster Company, smelled the delicious aroma of organic meyer lemons at DMS Ranch (and got to take some fruit home). Then, we taught our future leaders how to write a SWOT analysis and budget, and pitch their proposal for a $1M loan with a panel of loan officers at American AgCredit (think shark tank with a twist)!
It was another fun-filled day of hands-on learning! Here’s what some of our students said:
One TLT student learned, “that there is more to the agriculture industry than just farming and cattle; there are many different careers involved." After spending the day together another said, “I learned that Agriculture is extremely important, especially in Sonoma County”.
HOSA Students Raise $ to Fight Pediatric Cancer
HOSA's theme this year is "Define Your Purpose" and these young leaders did just that. They built fellowship and raised over $200 for a cure. Well done, HOSA students!

Veterans Day at PHS
Prior to Veterans Day, PHS students will again engage in a letter writing to active service members of our armed forces. This will be done mainly in classrooms, but there will also be a letter writing station in the library so any student during this day can stop by when its convenient for them and write a letter
Sponsored by: ASB students and Mr. Granados
Assisted by: Blue Star Moms of Marin, Barb Bochner (co-president) (415) 717-7030
Activity: with photo boards, sample letters, writing guidelines, a sample care package that the letters will be a part of, and lots of writing materials - ASB will be signing teachers up for 15 minute slots to do a letter writing session with that class. The activity will happen on Nov. 9, 2018, and the letters will be vetted by ASB no later than Nov. 16. The letters will then be picked up by Blue Star Moms of Marin, and they will deliver them to our brave active duty armed service members across the world.
Teacher sign-up: This will be done with a Google sheet where teachers can sign up for a 15-minute slot at either the beginning, middle, or end of the class period. ASB students will be going to each class that signed up to lead a 15-minute letter writing session. ASB students will then collect and take the completed letters with them and bring them back to a central location (ASB room).
The letter writing materials will be provided by Ms. Lowell.
ASB students will be overseen by Mr. Aja and Mr. Jackson
