Counseling Newsletter- May 2020
Welcome
Hello Warriors,
This was our fifth week of Distance Learning. COVID- 19 has brought us all feelings of worry, loneliness, isolation, stress and anxiety. May is Mental Health Awareness month, and the topic of mental health has never been more important than now. Remember that your counselors are here to support you.
Fast Facts About Mental Health
The English language has over 3000 words for emotions.
When school aged students are taught about emotions their social behavior and school performance improves.
Most people do not think about their emotions that they are experiencing, but taking the time to think and recognize emotions can help us all cope during challenging situations.
Tips for Success
Allow yourself to feel. Emotions are part of the human experience, and you have every right to feel them, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, race or political affiliation.
Talk it out. Find someone you trust and can express your emotions.
Try journaling. Each night write down at least three feelings you had over the course of the day and what caused them. It does not need to be extensive. Just a few sentences, or bullet points to help you practice being comfortable with identifying and expressing your emotions.
See a mental health professional. If you are having trouble with dealing with your emotions, counselors and therapists are trained to help.
