September 2022

DEAR WINTER PARK FAMILIES:
Spring break has officially begun! We just wrapped up another great week, which included lots of exciting events: field trips, egg hunts, author celebrations, career day, a PTA meeting, and more.
With the arrival of spring break, we know that the year is drawing to a close very soon. When we return from break on April 17th, we have exactly 8 weeks left of the school year. Looking ahead, there are lots of things to get excited about that are happening when we return:
- Spring Musical: 101 Dalmations
- Fun Day
- Spring Fling
- Staff Appreciation Week
- Rising Kindergarten screenings for 2023-2024
- More field trips
- End of Year Assessments & EOG Testing
- 5th Grade Graduation
- Annual 5th Grade vs. WPES Staff kickball game
- End of Year celebrations
- And much, much more...
For now, we hope everyone spends the break resting, relaxing, and doing lots of things they enjoy, so that you return ready to finish the year strong. We all appreciate your continued support, and wish you all a safe and happy break! ~Mr. Hall
UPDATED TARDY POLICY:
After spring break on April 17th, we are revising our morning drop-off procedures for any car riders that arrive to school after 7:50:
- If the school staff or safety patrol members have gone inside, it means the tardy bell has rung and your child is late. Due to increased security and safety protocols, all children must now be checked in by the adult (parent/guardian) dropping them off.
- If no adults are outside, please park your car and walk inside to sign your child in at the front desk.
- You are now required to sign your child in, so if your child comes in alone, we will call and ask you to return to school and sign them in so they can proceed to class.
- Our new procedure will require the adult complete the documentation to check your child in, which includes name, date, time checked in, reason for tardiness, and signature.
Of course all of these extra steps can be avoided by dropping your child off before the tardy bell rings at 7:50 while school staff members are still outside. Remember, you can begin dropping your child off as early as 7:20 each morning. Thank you for your help in ensuring all students arrive to school in a timely and safe manner.
STAFF SHOUT-OUTS:
Check out these staff shout-outs submitted by families:
- Mrs. Price, Mrs. Creswell, and Coach Pellizzari did an amazing job not only teaching the knowledge needed for my child to participate in Science Olympiad, but the life-long transferrable skills of teamwork and smart strategy. They gave students the opportunity to learn what it's like to work hard...and succeed! Thank you!
- Ms. Stoddard and Mrs. Coe: My daughter talks about both of these teachers every day and how she loves being a part of each of their classes. They go above and beyond to ensure she succeeds both academically and mentally, and I could not be more grateful to have Ms. Stoddard and Mrs. Coe be such a huge milestone in her life!
Ms. Stoddard: Music
Mrs. Coe: 4th
Don't forget that you can nominate any staff member for a shout-out! Just use the short form below and they will be recognized in next month's Dolphin Digest:
STUDENT SHOUT-OUTS:
We are proud to showcase the students that earned a shout-out for making a SPLASH during the month of March. They were recognized for doing something positive that aligned with one of the five values, and their shout-out was read on the morning announcements. Check out the video below:
EOG Testing Dates:
If your child is in third, fourth, or fifth grade, they will be taking an End of Grade test in reading and math (and science if they are in fifth grade) at the end of May/beginning of June. See the schedule below so that you know which dates your child will be testing. It is very important they are at school on time and well rested the day of testing so they are all set to show everything they have learned this year!
