December 2018 Newsletter
News & Notes
November was an extremely busy month. We recognized Remembrance Day, Indigenous Education Month, Bullying Prevention & Awareness Week, Bus Safety presentations, and a trip to a Kingston Frontenacs game, among other things.
As you now know, some exciting new initiatives have already been put in place (e.g. the use of an automated call-out system, a new school website and electronic calendar), and more will be fully implemented in the new year (online payments & permissions, web attendance).
As soon as possible, please use the unique code provided in the letter sent home with your child(ren) to enroll in the Online Payments and Permissions program. If you have misplaced of lost your enrollment code, don't hesitate to call the school so we can look it up for you. After the new year, we will be using this system almost exclusively for anything requiring payment or permission forms.
Spirit Wear orders should be arriving at the school soon - please let Mr. West or Mrs. Gallagher know if you have purchased Spirit Wear as a gift and DO NOT want orders sent home with your child(ren).
Over the first few months of school, staff have been hard at work assessing students and analyzing data in order to set goals for improvement . Please see our (short-form) School Improvement Plan for 2018-2019 below.
As always, we appreciate the support and active involvement of our families. Selby P.S can only reach it's full potential with the meaningful engagement of our parent community. Regardless of what you celebrate or don't, here's wishing you a wonderful December!
Sincerely,
Aaron West

JOIN PARENT COUNCIL FOR 2018/2019
Chair: Norah Brien
Treasurer: Corinna Geenavasen
Secretary: n/a
As you can see, we are still looking for someone to fill the position of secretary, which involves taking minutes during meetings, preparing them for distribution, and sharing with the Council after each meeting. Please let us know if you would be interested in filling this position.
Babysitting is provided at meetings. While the Council very much needs members who can volunteer at events and help out with fund-raising, anyone is welcome to attend meetings, even if it's just to listen or provide your ideas & opinions. We hope to see you soon!
