Upper Valley Makers Fall 2014
Maker News & Happenings in the Upper Valley
Upper Valley MakerSpace Update - Oh what a busy year it has been!
It has been just under a year since the first Upper Valley MakerSpace meetup took place in Lebanon, and so much has happened since then! We want to bring you up to date on the fantastic progress that we've made so far:
We have the opportunity to create to operate not one, but two MakerSpaces right here in the Upper Valley.
TwinState MakerSpaces, Inc. has been incorporated as a New Hampshire not-for-profit company, and it will be the parent organization of both MakerSpaces.
TwinState MakerSpaces has received our federal 501c3 non-profit designation. All donations made to support your MakerSpace are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. We will be starting our public fundraising efforts shortly, and appreciate any and all support of whatever size and nature.
We are in the process of acquiring an amazing building right in downtown Claremont. The Sawtooth building will be the home of the Claremont MakerSpace, and we are so excited to be have the opportunity to put this beautiful historic building back into use.
We are doing feasibility analysis on the rear of the historic Vermont Salvage building in downtown White River Junction, VT with the hopes of making it our home for our The Upper Valley MakerSpace.
Both projects have a lot of hurdles to overcome, but we're hopeful that we can open both MakerSpaces by summer 2015.
We’ve hired our first employee! Josh Bushueff joins us as Assistant Director. Learn more about Josh in the next article.
Community response and support to the Upper Valley MakerSpace and Claremont MakerSpace has well exceeded our expectations. We've talked with hundreds of interested people at outreach events like the Upper Valley HomeLife Expo, SolarFest Mini Maker Faire and Claremont's Birthday in the Bricks celebration. Both the City of Claremont and the Town of Hartford have been wonderful to work with on these projects, and we are looking forward to being part of both of these wonderful communities.
Stay tuned for more news on the progress of the Upper Valley MakerSpace and Claremont MakerSpace including how you can get more involved, events and activities, membership options and how you can help bring them both to life.
Introducing Josh Bushueff, Assistant Director of TwinState MakerSpaces
Originally from Sunapee, NH, Josh Bushueff has spent the last six years in New York City and Los Angeles, working professionally in cinema and photography industries as both a freelancer and business owner. Concurrently, Josh has been actively involved in creative ventures including animation, sculpture, wood-working, curation, and audio production; working alongside top personnel in many fields. His passion for the arts, coupled with a keen interest in experiential education and the inquiry driven, D.I.Y. spirit, has aligned Josh with the maker movement and drawn him back to the East Coast to join the UVMS team. Other Local Maker Happenings
Is CNBC looking for you? Big Fish Casting is casting a new series for CNBC called “Make Me A Millionaire Inventor” based on a UK show of the same name. You can watch full episodes of the British version on YouTube right now.
On the show, two expert mechanical engineer and product development hosts help inventors build/create/modify/perfect their prototype and then the inventor can pitch his/her invention to a panel of investors!
Big Fish is looking for inventors who have a patented or patent-pending invention and a basic prototype, CAD model or sketches. It should be an invention that needs R&D and a prototype. If this sounds like you, or if you're interested in learning more, contact:
