Pay rate for a full day of substitute teaching is: $112 and after 12 days they get $260 bonus.
Challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic:
Our staff is simply incredible and pulls together to support where help is needed- ALWAYS. When that happens, other things are put on hold or plan for some student's change during the day.
To address the need for substitutes, here are the things we have done and will continue to do at Eagles:
Have 5 specialists (library, Title 1 reading, Dean of Students, Counselor, Student Performance Strategist) with more flexible schedules cover for classroom teacher absences on a rotation. This does mean that some services for students may be cancelled on a particular day or look different and this cannot happen over multiple days without affecting many students.
When we have students in special education that are absent, we can use para educators that have sub licenses to teach in classrooms.
If a teacher is able to ZOOM from their home or have recorded lessons, we may have a para educator or school staff in the room assisting students while the teaching is live via ZOOM.
Lastly after exhausting all other avenues we may need to make the difficult decision of moving a classroom to distance learning for a specific time period. This is a last resort; we will do everything in our power to keep our classrooms open and functioning for students.
Please know that none of these decisions are easy and we know that each of them effect a student's day. Thank you for working with us during these challenging times.

FARGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2019-2020 ANNUAL REPORT
Restart Plan Level 4 Updates:
Per recommended guidance from local healthcare agencies, a modified return to in-person instruction plan was presented to the committee. This plan was modified following guidance from Fargo Cass Public Health and Dr. Paul Carson, a leading expert on infectious diseases in our community. The plan keeps the current instructional model in place for all levels for the remainder of the first semester. The goal now is to return to in-person instruction for all grade levels beginning January 19, 2021. Rationale for the modified plan is provided later in this message.
The committee adopted the modified plan. The plan includes a tentative timeline to return to in-person instruction. The timeline below is a goal but is subject to change as the committee continues to review data and guidance specific to COVID-19.
Elementary Schools: Level 4 – In-Person Instruction (4 days per week) until January 19, 2021
In-person instruction four days a week allows the opportunity for FPS staff to connect and support students that are quarantined or isolated during the distance learning day for all other students. Therefore, transitioning to five days a week with a significant number of students continuing to be quarantined or isolated can create additional gaps for learning loss.
2020-21 Snow Day Procedures
After careful consideration, Fargo Public Schools (FPS) will do the following if our weather prevents us from having school:
- School will be cancelled for the first one to two snow days that fall Monday through Thursday. If there is a snow day on a preplanned Friday distance learning day, distance learning will occur. If one to two snow days occur, we will make up the days on either April 30 and or May 17.
- Any additional snow days after two days will either be a distance learning day at home or will be cancelled and the makeup requirement waived.
- For more information about the 2020-2021 snow day procedures, visit the FPS school cancellation process webpage
