From Our PTO...
Now - April 26 - Donations for Teacher Appreciation Week
We would like to stock the lounge with all of snacks, fruit, pastries and drinks that they can grab and go throughout the week. Our goal is to stock things at the beginning of the week and restock as we have items available throughout the week. We want to stick with single serve items, so that we do not have to clean up and put away each day.
We are looking for volunteers to donate items that we can use. PTO will also shop for fresh fruit, yogurt, cheese and fresh items. Many bulk items can be found at Sams and Costco for decent prices. Local grocery stores also have great choices. We have even found that some can be ordered from Amazon.
We have put together an Amazon wishlist that can either be used to order from and ship to school or to give you an idea of the type items we are looking for. We have also created a sign-up genius to be used to sign up for specific items. Please take a look and consider donating to our wonderful teachers that have worked so hard this school year.
Please send/bring all items to the PTO office no later than April 26th. This will give us time to see what other items need to be purchased. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tiffany @ 979-575-0487 or Sarah @ 832-812-5609.

SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:05 AM!
BOBCATS COME TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY!
FREE BREAKFAST - 7:35AM
SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:05!
AVOID BEING LATE, COME BEFORE 8!!
We have between 40-60 tardies a day!
We have over 40 absences each day!
These numbers are causing our district to lose crucial scholar funding!
It is also interfering with student outcomes! Burchett's academic performance should be in the 80% with all the talent and commitment we are seeing from our scholars! However, hundreds of our scholars struggle with chronic absenteeism, daily tardies, and being picked up early on a regular basis. All pose a huge threat to our campus performance and to individual scholar performance outcomes! We have to do better! We will be reaching out to gain some insight from you to see how we can improve in this area! Our attendance rate is 93% and should be 96% or higher!
Let's work together and get our scholars to school every day, on time for the FULL DAY!
SUMMER SCHOOL MANDATE...
-less than 90% attendance rate
-failing grades
-failed a STAAR test last year 2020-2021
Students who fall in the categories above, will be receiving notifications about Summer School in the next week or so. From there, you will need to register your child, following the steps provided. Summer Bridge will allow your child to recoup the days and/or content they've missed due to failing grades or STAAR scores and/or chronic absenteeism.
ANY STUDENT NEEDING SUMMER SCHOOL FOR ACADEMICS OR ATTENDANCE, must submit their Summer School application, prior to May 8th, in order to attend any of our End of the Year school or level celebrations, including FIELD DAY.

STAAR IS COMING! AVOID SUMMER SCHOOL!
WE HAVE 10 SCHOOL DAYS TO PREPARE FOR STAAR!
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Did you know that your child's STAAR scores will ...
-determine f your child will need to attend summer school
-determine if your child will be mandated to have 30 hours of tutorials (HB4545)
-determine how Burchett Elementary will be rated - A, B, C, or not rated (21-22)
Not rated is equivalent to D/F
These are all equally important because your scholar has the capability to be a part of something great and gain academic excellence awards for their performance! Our district needs to see BURCHETT BACK ON TOP! WE ARE NOT A "C" CAMPUS.
So, help us stress the importance of students
-BEING AT SCHOOL ON TIME EACH DAY
-GIVING 100% IN THEIR CLASS EVERY DAY
-STUDENTS KNOWING THEIR TARGET GOALS
-TAKING THE STAAR TEST SERIOUSLY
Student Scores will fall in one of the categories:
DID NOT MEET GRADE LEVEL (Grade Equivalent - F)
This means your child did not show enough understanding of the material and did not meet the grade-level learning goals. Your child will need significant help in this subject.
APPROACHES GRADE LEVEL (Grade Equivalent - D)
This means your child showed some understanding of the material. It is likely your child will need extra help in this subject.
MEETS GRADE LEVEL (Grade Equivalent - C)
This means your child showed an understanding of the material and is on grade level. While there is room for improvement, your child will not need much help in this subject.
MASTERS GRADE LEVEL (Grade Equivalent - A/B)
This means your child showed a strong understanding of the course content and is well prepared to take on more challenging material in this subject.
Social-Emotional Learning At-Home with Mrs. Allen, Counselor
Hello parents!
Over the next few weeks I will be sharing 10 ways you can bring social emotional learning home.
1. Take care of yourself, even when it feels like the last thing you can do right now.
In order to cultivate the social and emotional skills of young people, you must take care of your own mental, social and emotional wellness. Young children are sensitive to the stress of their caretakers.
We must stay calm and realistic. They sense when we are worried and anxious, and our emotions directly affect the emotions of our children. We must build in time, even if only 10 minutes a day, for our own wellness practices—journaling, going for a walk, meditating, exercising, for example. Much like putting on our own oxygen mask first before putting on a child’s, we must take care of ourselves during this stressful time so that we’re able to show up for others.
See you next week for tip #2!
¡Hola padres!
