Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
Dear Parents,
We have one more week until Spring Break and our students have been working so hard academically these last few weeks. Mrs. Richardson and I have wrapped up teacher observations in all classrooms and we are both so proud of the level of instruction and engagement we are seeing throughout the building. When we return from Spring Break, our students in Grades 3-5 will begin the Georgia Milestones. Mrs. Richardson has been communicating with you regarding specific dates that subjects will be tested. Our students prepare all year for this assessment and it is nothing they should stress over.
Thank you to the parents who came out last Thursday night to Birmingham Falls for the assessment meeting. Mr. Hastings did a fine job of explaining all of the assessments we use to guide instruction here in Fulton County Schools. His PowerPoint has been uploaded to our school website for your reference.
I want to congratulate kindergarten teacher, Alisa Dallas. This week, she was selected as the Teacher of the Year for the entire Northwest Learning Community (see photo above). There is no one more deserving than she is and we are proud to support her as she competes in the final round to win for the entire district. Ms. Dallas is the epitome of what we want Crabapple Crossing employees to represent professionally in our school and the community. We wish her the best moving ahead.
Next week, we will recognize our Volunteer of the Year, Mr. Curtis Martin. Curtis has been a member of our SGC for three years. The first two years he was an active participant and just this year, he began leading the team as our Chair. He has actively led our strategic planning as we wrote a new plan to align to the district's plan. Curtis attended several meetings off campus with various stakeholders to bring information back to our team. We are happy to have Curtis and his wife Mary as active volunteers in our school. They have two children here, Sydney and Justus.
Next week, we look forward to seeing our Third Grade families at the Tuesday night music performance. Mrs. Richardson will be here supervising along with Mrs. Jones. I will be away at Riverwood High School to support another student who is receiving a special honor.
We wish our chorus all the best as they sing the National Anthem Saturday night at the GA SWARM game. Have a great weekend.
Georgia Milestones Assessment
During the month of April, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be taking the Georgia Milestones Assessment. 3rd and 4th grade students will take the ELA and Math End of Grade assessment while our 5th grade students will take the End of Grade Assessment in the areas of ELA, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Teachers will indicate exact testing dates for their classes via newsletters. We know that our students will perform well due to the high level of instruction they receive each day. We encourage students to work carefully and do their best. This is a message that is not limited to just testing, but applies to other academic and social areas as well. Please remember that lunch visitors and volunteers will not be admitted during the month of April to help us maintain a calm and orderly environment. If you have any questions about testing, please reach out to Mrs. Richardson at richardsona1@fultonschools.org.
