STEAM Floor at York School Receives Recognition
York Central School was presented with the Excellence in Student Services Award for the recently renovated STEAM floor, which opened in the fall of 2022.
"We were thrilled to be able to take an underutilized and somewhat forgotten space in the building and be able to transform it into modern STEAM classrooms that our students and faculty can use to further education in current technologies," Board of Education President Mr. Steve Beardsley commented.
York School’s STEAM floor (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) includes state of the art classrooms where students take courses such as STEAM 8, Intro to Forensics, AP Physics, MS Coding, AP Computer Science, HS STEAM, Intro to Cyber Security, CAD, Architecture, DDP, Photo Journalism, Intro to Digital Media Arts, Photography, and Capstone.
Teaching STEAM courses are Mr. Peter Apps, Mr. Michael Barrett, Mrs. Marcy Boyd, and Ms. Kathleen Andrzejczak.
"It is an honor to be recognized as a district for the work that our teachers have put into building courses that are relevant to our student body and life beyond the walls of a school. Students have risen to the challenge and embraced the innovative and rigorous experiences," remarked Middle/High School Principal Mrs. Lindsey Peet.
The Genesee Valley School Boards Association presents the award annually to recognize outstanding programs and services taking place in school districts within the Genesee Valley BOCES.
“Thank you to the Genesee Valley School Boards Association for hosting the annual Legislative Forum and for recognizing York Central School District’s STEAM floor, and our commitment to offering multi-disciplinary courses that will prepare our students for success in any career aspiration,” York Superintendent of Schools David Furletti commented.

York Senior Jake Pangrazio Sets New School Record
Excerpt from LCAA's Finest
Senior Jake Pangrazio's name is now set in the YCS athletic history books after he surpassed alumnus Matt Orman's (1998) basketball record with 1,046 points in their game against Letchworth on January 2, 2024. Matt Orman is the brother to York head basketball coach Ed Orman Jr. (pictured).
"It's a well-deserved honor for Jake to ascend to the top of the scoring leaderboard,” coach Orman Jr. said. “He's put in a ton of work and has had such great support from his family and team. I couldn't be more happy for him and look forward to watching him still grow and improve this season.”
Congratulations Jake!
