Eagle Day (Grades 7 & 8)
We are thrilled to be kicking off the 2018-2019 school year and have been busy planning how to help our 7th and 8th graders feel prepared and enthusiastic for a great year ahead! As part of this plan, we are going to be introducing our very first Eagle Day on Friday, September 7th. Even though the start of each school year is inevitably filled with some logistical and procedural pieces, we are hoping Eagle Day helps to accomplish most of these things in an efficient and fun way so that students and teachers get off on the right foot!
Although students will predominantly be following their regular period schedule, the activities they will be engaging in on Eagle Day will not be as its listed on their schedules. Students can expect to walk out of school Friday with their STAR assessments complete, an overview of student expectations and procedures, an introduction to the new additions to our character education program, and everything they need to know about student life as a 7th or 8th grader (clubs and sports opportunities). Additionally, they will have their 2018-2019 school pictures taken and meet our district School Resource Officers, Director of School Safety and middle school counselors during a refresher regarding online safety and cyberbullying. Perhaps the part students will be most excited about is the portion of their day sponsored by our wonderful TC Armstrong PTO when we offer dessert from Kona Ice!
The last event planned for the day is the viewing and discussion of the award-winning documentary, Screenagers. We are really excited to be sharing this with our students as a kick-off to the school year. We are working on solidifying a date for a parent viewing of the film and will share those details ASAP. Our goal is to have students leave this first week feeling informed, safe, and excited to start the school year!
As previously mentioned, we have done some significant work to embed and connect our Character Education program and Eagle Day is one of the outcomes of this work. We look forward to sharing more details of this in upcoming newsletters!

For those of you that picked up your Chrome Books this summer, please make sure you have them charged for the first day of school.
If you have not stopped by to pick it up yet, you will receive one on the first day of school. We will need parent permission slips filled out for any 7th grade student picking up their Chromebook for the first time. For 8th graders, they have been placed in students' lockers.
Note from the Nurse
MEDICATIONS
If your child will require medication or you would like your child to receive or have available a pain reliever as needed, an order for that medication must be provided by your child's healthcare provider.
New medicine orders are needed at the beginning of each school year as they are only valid for 1 school year.
ALL medications have to be brought in by an adult UNLESS the Dr. has written the medication order as a "self carry" then the form is filed in my office and the child may keep the medication safely in their possession during the school day.
Medications orders can be faxed to me directly to 315-524-1099
5th grade
New York State Education Law mandates that 5th graders provide a current physical. We can accept a physical dated anytime from September 6th, 2017 until present.
Please check to see if your child's physical is within these dates and send a copy into school at your earliest convenience.
You may fax it to 315-524-1099, email it to me at aharris@waynecsd.org, drop a copy off to the main office, or send to school with your child.
If there physical is outdated please call the Pediatrician to schedule an appointment and call my office to provide me that date so your child will show "in process."
6th grade
New York State Education Law mandates that 6th graders must have the TdaP booster immunization by age 11. If your child is in 6th grade, 11 years of age, and has not received this immunization, I strongly encourage you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible with your child's Physician.
Proof of Immunizations not yet sent in may also be faxed directly to the Nurse's office as well. 315-524-1099 or a copy sent into school with your child to be handed in to me. If there is an appt. set up please call my office to supply the date so that it shows your child is "in process" of becoming compliant.
7th grade
New York State Education Law mandates that 7th graders provide a physical and also proof of the Meningococcal vaccine in order to attend school. We can accept a physical dated anytime from September 6th, 2017 until present. Most of the 7th graders are compliant with both of these requirements, if your child is not I have already reached out to the few that need to provide this.
Also feel free to supply a copy of your child's physical when they receive a new one as I am always updating their information in case if eligible they choose to play a sport or do anything else that requires a current physical.
Thank you and please feel free to call with any questions.
