Keeping Up with Comm Arts
~ November 13, 2023 ~
Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!
Thank you to all of the veterans in the community! Last Friday, our school offered a breakfast before school to show appreciation. It is a small token of our gratitude for their service to our nation.
During Comm Arts lunch this Thursday, we will have Turkey Fest. Many of our campus organizations/student groups will sell yummy food items. Students, make sure to plan accordingly if you want to participate.
Students, please keep up with your assignments and check your grades. Final exams for the fall semester will be December 12th-15th. Attendance is mandatory. There are no semester exam exemptions.
As we wind down and prepare for Thanksgiving week, we would like to express our thankfulness for sharing your most precious gifts with us. Your children are the best, and we consider ourselves very lucky to be able to serve them. Have a restful Thanksgiving week!
Campus Highlights
CAHS Veteran's Day Breakfast Celebration
On November 10, 2023, CAHS celebrated and thanked veterans with much sincere gratitude for their dedicated service and unwavering courage to sacrifice their lives for their country and our freedom. Veterans from all military branches gathered together in the CAHS LGI and happily feasted on breakfast while songs of praise and thanksgiving were played in their honor. We thank you for your sacrifice and our freedom!
Esports Competition
Esports had a district competition this past weekend. Fourteen players show up to represent Comm Arts. No one made it to finals, but they all had fun. Thank you to the parents who stayed and showed their support.

Recruitment Season
Parents,
We are about to embark on another recruiting round of incoming 9th graders for next year. We have two magnet fairs (one at the Northside Gym and the other at Paul Taylor Fieldhouse) in December. If you are interested in volunteering to help us recruit, please let me know and fill out a background check form below. It's from 6:30-8 p.m. on the 4th and 11th. You basically mingle with curious parents of 8th graders and answer questions. We are also there as a backup. I like to bring parents who are familiar with our school to give their perspective to potential new candidates. I appreciate your consideration.

Dual Credit Enrollment Process for 2024-25 (new students only)
The Dual Credit Program allows eligible students, grades 9-12, to take college-level courses at no cost and earn college credit through Northwest Vista College while concurrently enrolled in the equivalent high school course. Students can earn up to 42 college credits that may be transferred to Texas public colleges and universities and some private and out-of-state universities.
All students interested in the Dual Credit Program for the FIRST time next school year must complete the Dual Credit Interest Google form (https://forms.gle/53dKnnpgSsLCbUUr6) by Friday, December 8, 2023. Completing this Google form does NOT qualify a student for dual credit enrollment but simply indicates an interest.
Spanish 3 Dual Credit
Attention parents of Spanish 2 students! Your child will receive a letter in class on Monday, November 13th, explaining the process of enrolling in Advanced Spanish 3 Dual Credit for next year. They will take the Assessment for Eligibility in Spanish class as their first step in the process. The other steps will be explained in the letter. So please ask your child for it at home.

Counselors' Corner
Wise Words with Mrs. Skidmore & Dr. Rosales
Our counselors met with juniors during their AP English 3 classes this past week. The guidance lesson focused on post-secondary readiness. Students completed the College Board Big Future Career Quiz. The quiz captured students' interest and sorted their inventory into six categories: conventional, realistic, social, investigative, enterprising, and artistic. Students matched their interests with career fields and explored career options. The second portion of the lesson allowed students to use a college search with filters for majors, locations, costs, campus life, etc. Ask your juniors to show you their results and exploration findings.
Our counselors will meet with sophomore students individually during their AP World History class this week. Students will receive their class rank and GPA, information about credits they have earned, and what they still need to complete.
The Attitude of Gratitude
It can be difficult to think of things you are grateful for when everything in your life seems to be going wrong. Countless studies show that for many people, finding a bit of thankfulness each day can actually increase happiness levels and decrease depression. Developing an Attitude of Gratitude makes us feel more fulfilled and joyful each day.
