The Solar Nebula Theory

Sarah Bishop

What exactly IS this theory?

The Solar Nebula Theory, (also known as the Nebular hypothesis, or the Big Bang Theory) was proposed in 1734 by Emanuel Swedenborg. This theory suggests that stars would start to form in massive and dense clumps of molecular hydrogen, which are very unstable. This causes the clouds to rotate, collapse, and break into even smaller, denser clumps. This forms stars, and in some circumstances, planets. It has been said that planets are just merely a product of star formation. It is the most popular, and the most accepted theory in cosmogony, in relation to formation and evolution of the solar system.
