BOTA Canned Food Drive

A great part of BOTA is the annual Canned Food Drive Competition led by the Sherman High School Student Council. Over the past couple of years, due to the support of our community, we’ve successfully collected thousands of cans. We look forward to another successful year and need your help to #BEATdenison and collect the most cans!

Listed below are a few examples of items that can be contributed:

  • Tuna or other canned meats
  • Canned Fruit
  • Canned or Dried Beans
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Pasta

Tomorrow is the last day to donate. Items may be donated at the SHS campus or the SISD administration building until 4:30pm on Thursday.

Thank You!

Dr. Tamy Smalskas personally delivered more than $600 in donations to the SHS Student Council on behalf of the Sherman Lions, Kiwanis, and Rotary clubs. Thank you for your support!

New Sherman High School Construction Hits One Year Mark

The new Sherman High School construction project hit the one year mark since breaking ground on August 8 of 2018. The construction crews have made significant progress with vertical construction since July. Throughout the past year, construction crews have moved more than 98 acres of dirt. Below grade components of this project have consisted of the installation of more than 200,000 If of water, sanitary and storm lines. As we approach the end of summer, vertical construction for the academic building, auditorium, cafeteria, field house, and multipurpose activity center will advance, with our athletic fields following in September.

In 2017, voters approved a $176 million bond election to address several district needs, which included the construction of a new Sherman High School that will welcome students at the start of the 2020 school year. To view the new Sherman High School construction in progress, please visit the district’s live web link page at

The safety and security of Sherman ISD students and staff are paramount, and the District fully understands that SISD staff are first on the scene in the event of an emergency intruder situation. As a result, the Board of Trustees established local policies CKC, DH, and GKA to facilitate the implementation of a School Guardian Program. This program permits selected and approved employees to receive the necessary training and carry a concealed firearm on Sherman ISD property. An application process is currently available for interested and eligible employees. If you would like to consider applying as a School Guardian, please contact Tyson Bennett, Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations, at or 903-891-6415.

Professional Development

Each school year staff members are required to complete a series of online compliance trainings. These trainings are located online through Region 10 ESC at the link below:

What does each staff member need to do?

1. Each individual will need to log into the Region 10 online learning site and complete the training by the specified due dates.

2. Provide a copy of the Region 10 Certificate of Completion to the campus administrator or designee for compliance documentation to be retained on campus for the current school year.

3. Staff Professional Development Portfolio: Upon completion of each module, staff should register in Eduphoria for each course and complete the Eduphoria survey.
