Contest Description:

The Institute for Public Policy at Bucknell University and the O'Pake Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Public Service at Alvernia College announce our inaugural essay competition for spring 2013 on the question: What is the most pressing policy question for the next ten years and what solution seems most workable? Essays can address any area that is related to public policy, be it global, domestic, or even state/local. Students are encouraged to be specific in their choice of policy question and solution rather than general. Criteria for judgment will emphasize evidence-based argumentation in the essay; in other words, essays that are strictly ideologically-argued, regardless of ideological perspective, will not be highly ranked.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students in any major at either Bucknell are eligible to submit an original essay for this competition. We ask that students list a professor who can recommend you. The Bucknell finalists will present their essays as part of a public forum, to be moderated by The Honorable Dave Myers on Wednesday evening, April 10, 2013.

Awards:

The winning Bucknell student will receive a $200 gift certificate to the campus bookstores. The finalists and the winning submissions will be displayed prominently on the webpages for the Institute for Public Policy and the O'Pake Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Public Service.
