Superintendent's Honor Roll
Congratulations to the students who were honored at the GISD School Board Meeting! They were chosen by their teachers as the fall recipients of the Superintendent's Honor Roll.
The students were introduced to GISD Superintendent, Mr. Martindale and the GISD School Board by their campus principal who read statements from their teachers. Comments included terms such as team player, helpful, leader, hard worker, and so many more.
These students are true examples of what being a Gunter Tiger is all about!

HOMECOMING 2022
"Saddle Up and Ride for the Tigers"
Homecoming 2022 was a week full of fun for the Gunter Tigers. Thank you for all of your spirit and making this week so special for the community and our students. During the week, students dressed up in some awesome costumes, we were blessed by vendors who provided food or drinks at the tailgate, the cheerleaders wowed us by planning an awesome Pep Rally, the GHS Band pulled a double by performing for us and competing at UIL Competition all in the same day, the Gunter Tiger Fan Club provided fireworks and planned a great parade, and both Volleyball and Football pulled out a win!
Our entire Homecoming Court looked great on the field as they crowned Ashton Bennett and Kailey Tokarz the 2022 Gunter Homecoming King and Queen. Congratulations to all who were on the ballot! Queen's Court: Adilynn Henry, Briley Singleton, Kailey Tokarz, Aubrey Walton, Elle Whitteker; King's Court: Ashton Bennett, Ivy Hellman, Adam Reed, Ethan Sloan, Trey Walton.
Photos from this story are available from many places. Thank you to all who have shared so many great pictures!

Making a Difference - Faculty Recognition
There is one common thread that keeps the school district going, and that is our faculty! We were excited to honor three teachers at the GISD School Board Meeting who go above and beyond to make Gunter the BEST school district in Texas.
We are excited to congratulate:
- Mr. Andrew Moore (GHS)
- Mr. Steve Fletcher (GMS)
- Mrs. Bethany Foster (GES)
School Board Briefs
THANK YOU!
Treat Yourself!
Special thanks from our GISD faculty to the administration for spoiling the staff at two separate events. They got to enjoy a "Treat Yourself" Ice Cream Bar and a "Treat Yourself" Trail Mix Bar. The goodies were enjoyed by all!
Thank You, PTO!
Thank you to the campus PTOs who continually treat our staff with breakfast, luncheons, goodies and assistance in so many ways! You truly are "souper and spooktacular"!
GMS Fall Soup Bar
GHS Spooktacular Candy Bar
GES Halloween Soup Bar
Mr. Williams, from our maintenance and transportation department, loves our GISD students! Besides school games and activities, he will often go to GYA games to support the kids even on weekends. On Friday, Oct. 21 Mr. Williams attended the games of both sixth grade volleyball teams at the Fieldhouse in Frisco.
One thing we love about Mr. Williams is his "can do, never give up work ethic, friendly demeanor, and positive attitude". He is a true treasure for both faculty and students and an exemplary Gunter Tiger.
Thank you, Mr. Williams, for being such a positive influence on our Tigers of all ages!
Fall Book Fair Thank YOU!
A huge thank you to all our wonderful students, parents, and volunteers who made our Fall Scholastic Book Fair a tremendous success! A special thank you to our PTO volunteers who planned and organized the Book Fair; without their assistance the fair would not run smoothly.
Sales from the Elementary Fair totaled $8,741.58; (profiting $1,943.83). This money will be used for our Specials classes.
Sales from the Middle School Fair totaled $4,071.23; (profiting $854.27). This money will be used to purchase new books and furniture for the middle school library.
Again, Thank you for your help and support.
True Harvest Farms Visits Classes
True Harvest Farms spent some time visiting with our Horticulture classes. As part of the #farmfreshchallenge, our cafeteria strives to serve locally grown, fresh food, and True Harvest Farms is one of our vendors who provides a healthy choice for our student lunches.
As you know, our horticulture classes have a garden of their own, so having a company come out to speak to them about turning their love of agriculture into a business was so exciting.
Thank you, True Harvest Farms for visiting with our students and providing such a healthy food choice in our cafeterias!
Gunter Cafeterias Rated "100" on Health Inspection
We are happy to announce that all three of our cafeterias earned a 100 on the Health Inspection! They also ranked A+ on the Niche ratings. Have we mentioned we have the best cafeteria staff around? Great job! Thank you for caring for our students nutritional needs and so much more!

Gunter Volunteer Fire Department Visits Elementary
The GVFD visits our GES campus annually to help teach our students about fire safety, and we are always excited to see them! The students meet the fire fighters, try on their gear, hold the fire hose, crawl to safety, and tour the fire trucks. It all seems like fun to the kids, but they are actually learning safety skills to use if they are ever in a fire. Getting to see the firemen in their gear and try it on shows them not to fear the firefighter in a rescue situation.
We can't thank the GVFD enough for everything they do for our district!
Congratulations to our Middle School Students of the Month
5th Grade - Whitleigh Wyant
Whitleigh is involved in volleyball and softball. Her favorite subject is math, and she loves to draw and listen to the Imagine Dragons. In the future, Whitleigh would like to become a doctor.
6th Grade - Max Zielinski
7th Grade - Tylie Beckley
8th Grade - Kamden Campbell
Kamden plays baseball and runs track and cross country. When he is not competing in his sports, he likes to workout. His favorite subject is algebra, and he likes to listen to the Beatles and the Eagles. In the future, Kamden would like to play baseball at Texas A&M.
Congratulations to the Fall GMS Rock Stars!
The 2022-2023 theme for Gunter Middle School is GMS Rocks which makes sense because we have a “rock-star” staff and student body. Now that we've sailed through the 1st 9 weeks, it's time to sing some praises!
Each teacher selected a “rock-star” student to honor for the first nine weeks grading period. Congratulations to: Sylvie Pace, Colt Kennemer, Ivan Martinez, Liam Stanley, Caleb Siler, Brody Barnett, Sydney Bodnyk, Angie Mendoza, Kasen Leonard, Rosee Davis, Brody Hicks, Vianay Fuentes, Amani Kiiru, Jackson Neufeld, Melissa Torres Del Rio, "Milly" Dulce Fraire, Lauren Keirns, Harlee Keel, Prezley Grant, Kason Lorenzini, Ava Thedford, Corbin Waligura, Samiha Pittman, John Luke Gonzales, Blake Hale, and Hannah Perkins.
GMS Principal, Mr. Dodd awarded each student with a guitar pick (shown in collage) and they will be entered in a drawing for a prize at the end of the year.
Thank you parents for sharing your awesome students with us!
Scientists at Work!
Students in Mr. Fletcher's 7th grade science lab were learning about Chemical and Physical Changes. Working with chemicals in a science lab requires focus, and these students are pros!
GMS Scientists Decipher between Mixtures and Solutions
What is the difference between a mixture and a solution? Mrs. Bon's 5th graders followed instructions in a variety of activities to find the answer to this question. In the lab, they saw what happened when water is heated until it evaporates and mixed a variety of items together and then tested to see if they could easily be separated. Check out the reaction to a magnet and some iron filings that were mixed with rice and sand :)

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for a brief reunion that includes food, drink and celebration. Students created their own altar’s of their loved ones who have passed.

Things are Bigger in Texas
If you are a State Fair kind of person, you might be impressed with Big Tex... but Gunter High School Floral students created a mum that could rival ole' Tex! The mum was made in true Texas fashion and hung by the Ag students in the front entry. You can see how large it is by looking at the doors and how much higher it hangs above it. Great job, floral!
Tractor Techs - Learning some great skills in AG that can be used in a career!
A few of our FFA boys had their first tractor tech practice at the Kubota dealership in Van Alstyne. Mr. Ashlock is training our first Tractor Tech Team and the future looks bright for them!

2022 DAR Good Citizen Award
Gunter High School, once again, has the privilege to participate in the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest. The contest requires that a school’s faculty nominate seniors while considering a student’s level of Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism. The top three nominees are then presented to the senior class for final selection of the Gunter High School DAR Good Citizen. The three nominees for the 2022 award were: Ethan James, Kamber Puebla, and Ivy Hellman. The final ballot count from the senior class indicated that the 2022 GHS DAR Recipient will be Kamber Puebla. Kamber will receive a DAR Good Citizen Pin, Certificate, and wallet recognition card. She will also compete in a county level essay competition where, if successful, she can earn the right to compete at the state and national level. The national level scholarship is $5,000 and includes a trip to Washington, DC to attend Continental Congress.

Gunter Athlete, Cameron Roller, Represents the USA in the World Cup Soccer Tournament
Gunter Senior, Cameron Roller, has been one busy girl so far this year! Cameron runs track for GHS, but that's not all... she also plays soccer for her Solar club team as well as the US Women's National Team. Cameron set a goal to play in the World Cup, and after working her way through the long (years) tryout process, she was named as one of 22 players to compete in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Word Cup.
In preparation for the event, Cameron traveled to the Dominican Republic, Spain, and California to compete and try out. Once selected, she traveled to Dubai in preparation for the 2022 World Cup which was played in India this past Month (October 2022). For the October 4th match against Japan, Cameron was named as the Captain of the team, which means she ranks one of the best of the 22 girls on the roster.
Three games were scheduled in the 2022 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
10/11 vs India - Score 4-0 USA Win
10/14 vs Brazil - Score 1-1 Tie

Graduation Date Change - Mark your calendar!
Graduation is a special time for our seniors, and we can’t think of a more special place to have the graduation than our own Tiger Field. To make that happen, we have decided to change the 2023 Graduation date to Thursday, May 25th at 8:00 PM. Making this change gives us the opportunity to make alternative plans in case the weather does not cooperate.
Our new plan looks like this:
- Graduation - Thursday, May 25th | 8:00 PM
- In the event of inclement weather on Thursday, Graduation will be held on Friday, May 26th at 9:00 AM
- If bad weather persists throughout both days, Graduation will be moved into the GHS Event Center (Main Gymnasium) and held Friday morning at 10:00 AM. If we have to move the ceremony inside, seating will be limited. Each graduate will be given 10 tickets for family/friends.
We are looking forward to making this event as special as we can for the Class of 2023.
