News from the Classrooms
From the Teachers:
3K: 3K has been studying pets for the month of April. We have learned what animals can be pets, how to take care of pets and what pets eat. We have made pet habitats in our block area, played in a pet shop in dramatic play and created all kinds of pets in art. Students ended the unit by being able to share about their own pets to the class.
Kindergarten: Mrs. Kroner’s class painted spring flowers using a bath sponge and they turned out pretty cool!
1st Grade: First graders have been learning about the life cycle of a chicken. They have hatched several chicks in their classrooms!
2nd Grade: 2nd grader have been learning about fractions using garden beds. Our Science unit about plants has coordinated with the GROW La Crosse lessons perfectly! Students have also been investigating area using inch tiles, graph paper and geoboards. We love Math! We are planning a very special field trip coming up in May. Everyone is excited about our annual fishing trip.
3rd Grade: Third graders have been learning about multiplying larger numbers using the box and lattice methods. They have been busy taking their MCA reading and math assessments as well. They have shown great perseverance with their test taking skills!
4th Grade: 4th grade has finished up our MCA testing and will soon wrap up our Fastbridge testing. We are excited to see the progress our students have made. In science, students are in the midst of a Rocks and Minerals unit. In social studies, students are finishing up their State Projects. On Thursday, 4th grade is spending the day at the Middle School in preparation for next year.
Music:
Kindergarten and 1st Grade are busy working on music and activities for their May 16th Spring Concerts.
2nd, 3rd and 4th Grades just finished up their three concerts Tuesday night, April 16th. Congratulations on a job well done!!
Next:
-2nd Grade will move on to Tone Color while studying the "Carnival of the Animals"
-3rd Grade will move on to the musical concepts of Form, Harmony and Texture
-4th Grade will begin their recorder unit
Art:It’s clay week in the art room! Watching the students create clay projects is magical. All students grades K-4 have completed the first day of clay. Now we will wait for the projects to dry. Next we will fire them in the kiln and then we will add color using paint, oil pastels, ink or glaze. Excellent job helping friends and working hard in art class. Below kindergarteners are working on their puppies and kittens.
Mrs. Verthein: Our students performed a play about the book, Room on a Broom, for the whole school during Bringing Books to Life. They showed cooperation in planning the parts, making decorations, and practicing consistently every day. Our students were proud of their performance.
Physical Education: Students in Physical Education just completed their cooperative games unit and fitness/fitness testing unit. Currently, students are participating in softball/baseball/kickball skills unit. Up coming units include field day unit, and outdoor activities unit. Play Day will be May 24th.

FROM OUR OFFICE
From Mr Copp:
We are looking forward to the month of May, in which we will focus our attention on "Sportsmanship". We encourage you to talk about this idea with your children, and connect with what is being worked on at school. Play Day is scheduled for May 24th, and we look forward to this event being a showcase for student skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship! With the passing of question one on the building bond vote, we are looking forward to two months of educational programming, and teacher input discussions, followed by six months of architectural design meetings. The anticipated ground breaking will be spring of 2020, and the estimated completion of the project will be August 2021. Thank you voters, for making this opportunity possible for our students!
ATTENDANCE REMINDER-TARDINESS
Students entering the building after 8:00 am will be considered tardy. Tardiness for reasons other than emergencies will be considered unexcused.
