ART CLUB
It’s time to sign up for Art Club! As in years past, Art Club will be divided by grade level. Each grade level will meet twice before school to create one extra art project. Meetings will be before school from 7:45-8:45am and will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Specific dates will be announced to selected students by January 31st. I have over 700 students, so I will narrow down the enrollment for Art Club by holding a lottery.
If students have returned their permission slip on time, I will enter their name in a drawing. I will select 25 students per grade level. I will draw first from students who have never been a member of Art Club in the past. This is to ensure that most students who are interested in Art Club will be a part of it before they leave New Britton Elementary. If there are extra places available, students who were in Art Club in previous years will be included in a second drawing to fill any remaining spots. Please turn in a permission slip even if you were a part of Art Club in a previous year and would like to be again. I will send home a list of actual meeting dates with only those students that were selected in the lottery process. If you don’t get a note sent home with the meeting dates, you were not selected in the lottery and therefore, are not a member of Art Club this year.
Please send the bottom portion (form below) back to school with your child by January 27, 2020.
Thanks!

Executive Functioning Workshop
Parents and caregivers are invited to an evening session hosted by HSE Schools to explore executive skills development in their children and teens. Executive skills are critical to the acquisition of academic skills, but, more importantly, they are the skills students need to get things done. They are brain-based skills such as task initiation, sustained attention, working memory, planning, organization, and goal-directed persistence that are critical to school success. Some students seem to acquire them naturally, but many students struggle with them. Dr. Peg Dawson, co-author of the books Smart but Scattered and Smart but Scattered Teens, will describe how these skills develop throughout childhood and suggest strategies parents can use to help children acquire the critical skills they need to be successful students. STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Mrs. Sherri Leiner - School Counselor
A Little about Me:
I have been in education for 24 years with most of them being at HSE Schools. I worked at Westfield Washington School Corporation for 10 years as a middle school counselor. Before that I worked in IPS in education and school counseling. I am almost an empty nester! My husband and I enjoy watching sporting events and cooking together. I have a son, Lucas, that is a mechanical engineer for a lighting company in Atlanta, Georgia. I also have a daughter, Lillian, that is a senior at HSE and will be continuing her student athlete (playing volleyball) status next year at Northern Kentucky University. We have a crazy dog, Sadie, that constantly makes us laugh and sometimes frustrates us. We also have a cat, Cali, that just eggs the dog on and smiles.
What Brings Me Joy: I love the sound of a cat purring, the deep belly laughter of children, my faith, and my family.
Favorite Food: I love pizza. My dad says that I have never found a pizza that I don't like - that is so true.
Favorite place to visit: Our family got to travel with my son's college football team to Europe. We loved traveling to different countries (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein) trying different foods, and enjoying the history of this area. I would love to return for more adventures.
