CHARTWELL HIGH SCHOOL UPDATES
High School Lunch & Hungry Teenagers
We do not have an authorized food service on campus and cannot serve meals to students regularly.
Thank you for working with your student on bringing sufficient food and snacks.
First Aid/CPR Certification this Friday
High school students in Human Anatomy and Physiology or Health will participate in CPR/First Aid Certification training this Friday.
Dinner, Theater and Free Tickets to Julius Caesar Under the Stars!
Every Chartwell High School student has an exciting opportunity to attend a live showing of “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare.
When: Thursday, October 14, arrival starting at 6:00 pm, performance begins at 7:30 pm
Where: The Forest Theater in Downtown Carmel: 7174 Mountain View Avenue, Carmel-by-the-Sea
There is no cost to students. The Pacific Repertory Theatre is covering all student ticket costs. We also encourage parents to attend; parents will pay $21/ticket and will be coordinated through Chartwell.
Every student attending will earn extra credit in their current literature class for attending the performance. For those unable to attend, there will be an alternative extra-credit assignment. This is an excellent cultural experience and will provide insight into the upcoming Project Period. Chartwell will provide a boxed dinner. We will be eating picnic-style at the Outdoor Forest Theater. Wear warm clothing as this is an outdoor performance.
If parents are not attending, we encourage student drop-off at the location. Some teachers will be on campus to bring students to the theater if needed, but all students that attend will need to be picked up after the performance, around 10:00 pm, at the theater.
RSVP to Mr. Shannon, HS literature teacher, with student or parent names who are attending, by emailing jshannon@chartwell.org. Please put “RSVP” in the subject line. RSVP no later than Monday, October 11, 12:00 noon (this is a holiday for Chartwell). If students require transportation, please include this information in the RSVP. You can also contact Mr. Shannon with any questions.
Winter Pre-Season Training Has Started
A shout out to all of the athletes who turned out for Tuesday's first training session. We had an incredible workout that included six sets of weights, six sets of body weight exercises, and we ran a mile!
High School Robotics Program for Chartwell Students
Is your high schooler interested in marketing and design? Entrepreneurship? Engineering or coding? Game strategy? All of these skills and more can be learned and practiced in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), and Chartwell students have the opportunity to join a community team that will practice mainly on our campus. Click here for a video about FRC.
Plus Ultra Robotics was founded in 2018 as a not-for-profit community team supported by Apple, DeWalt, Disney and FIRST - along with other local sponsors. We have competed in several qualifying and championship events, which involves building and coding a DIY robot to be remotely controlled on a field the size of a basketball court. During the preseason, until January, we are looking for new teammates from Chartwell. No experience is necessary, just interest, passion and dedication.
Practices will be primarily on Saturdays from 9:30am until 4pm. Students can join right away and would be helping mentor our FIRST Lego League Challenge and Explore teams at Chartwell, and learning tools and skills needed for the competitive season ahead. After kickoff in January, a frenzied but fun 6-week build season begins with longer practice hours, and teams across the globe will all be working on the same game strategies for a qualifying competition in March.
