TUMUAKI KŌRERO
Kia ora e te whānau,
TNIS continues to be a busy place as we approach the end of the year. There are lots of creative and innovative plans for Market Day next week, with all funds raised going towards St Johns.
End of Year Prize Giving: We look forward to our annual prize giving on Tuesday, 13th December, at Westlake Girls Auditorium 12.00-2.00 pm. This is an opportunity to celebrate the many successes of our learners in 2022 and come together as a school community. If your child is receiving an award at the prize giving, you will be notified via email by your child’s teacher by this Tuesday, 6th December.
Unfortunately, due to the unavailability of our school hall, we cannot hold a Year 8 Leavers assembly. The Year 8’s will receive their leaver's certificate as part of their final team assembly.
2023 Staffing and Classes: At the end of the year, we farewell Laura Gardiner(relocating to Australia), Jordan Eckhold-Brown (returning to Australia) and Liam Treacy (returning to Ireland). We thank them for the wonderful job they have done at TNIS and wish them all the best for the future.
We welcome Stephen Ramdhanie and Dan Sperber to our teaching staff in 2023 and Nick Chandra and Courtney Dixon, who are returning from leave.
Year 7 learners will remain in their current classrooms and teams for 2023.
Have a great weekend.
Poipoia tekākano kia pūawai. Nurture the seed, and it will bloom-we all need love and care to fully realise our potential.

PYP “How We Organise Ourselves” Tōtara Learners reflecting
This term we have been looking into a new unit called How We Organise Ourselves. This unit is all about organisations and how they need structures to function. Our central idea for this inquiry is ‘Organisations have structures and systems'. This can be broken down into three lines of inquiry. These are:
Structures, systems and skills are an important part of an organisation (Function)
People have different roles and responsibilities within organisations (Responsibility)
The connection between an organisation's structure and its ability to achieve the organisation's goal (Connection)
We learnt about this in many ways, the first of which was some provocations. This is an activity that provokes knowledge and gets you ready for the start of the unit. Our favourite provocation was one we did with Miss Winter, which was all about having a clear leader. We were given brief instructions about what we needed to do, and it was hard to organise ourselves. For example, we were told to get into groups and choose a game to play. It was confusing and hard to calm people down and decide on rules. Then after that, we were sorted into groups, the games were chosen, and the rules were explained as we were all there. It was easier and more fun, and we realised that this is what the central idea means. Organisations have structures and systems. Without the systems and structure, the organisation would fall apart. This was great to reflect upon, thinking about how we communicate and work together. We also did activities around advertising and effective communication.
Bringing all these ideas together, we will be holding a market day! In small groups, we are to design a product to sell at the market. We have created our own business names and logos based on what we will be selling at our stall. We need to budget, work out our costings and figure out how to make a profit. In doing so, we need to evaluate how we organise ourselves to create systems to effectively function. This unit of inquiry is great, having us collaborate to finish off our last unit for 2022.
