Student maturity
Mr Bean and Snickers - ninja
As the video aptly points out, some people are just naturally behind. As we are reading in the book study, "What Every Middle School Teacher Should Know," it is not the student's decision as to when his/her body matures. Many times, students that simply matured first are used as exemplars and given more responsibility ...as if they have actually accomplished something. When in fact, all that has happened is that these students have physically grown before others through no effort of their own. This exacerbates the feelings of inferiority that many male students already have because of obvious physical differences. Do we reward the more mature student unnecessarily? Are we doing enough to help the students that mature late in life? Just things to continue to think about as we work with this awkward age.
