Consensus Workshop

On January 14th the Project Aware and the School Improvement teams gathered for a consensus workshop to help guide the Project Aware planning process. Attendance included teachers, counselors, building administrators, MPPS leadership, and grant administrators from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. During the three hour workshop, we explored common district goals for how we can improve access and delivery of mental health services to MPPS students and families. Some of the common district goals from the consensus workshop included:

- Educate students about mental health through curriculum

- Develop staff mental health competencies

- Increase collaboration with community agencies

- Provide comprehensive school counseling for all students

- Improve communication with families

- Increase family education and support

- Strengthen home-school relationships

- Develop staff wellness program

- Model after successful programs

Meet MPPS Community Project Manager - Alexis Syrette


My name is Alexis Syrette and I am the MPPS Project AWARE Community Project Manager. I am a recent graduate of Central Michigan University where I received my Bachelor of Applied Arts in Family Studies with a minor in Youth Studies and American Indian Studies. Before graduating and starting this position with Project AWARE, I worked for PEAK starting at the middle school and then Mary McGuire for the 2018-2019 school year. Currently, I am pursuing my graduate degree through Arizona State University online to receive a Masters of Arts in Indigenous Education.


My job as the Project AWARE Community Project Manager is to serve as a bridge between the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and MPPS to help MPPS achieve the goals and objectives of the Project AWARE grant. This means my job encompasses several different things including:

- assist the MP AWARE Team in planning events

- help the MP AWARE Team collect data to report to SAMHSA

- coordinate and facilitate Project AWARE planning workshops

- serve as a teacher/staff resource contact

MPPS Community Partner - TEN16 Recovery Network

TEN16 Recovery Network is a community partner that specializes in substance use and abuse. Students can be referred to TEN16 Recovery Network and receive support services at school. Individual and group sessions are available to assist with prevention, education, counseling, and recovery. If you would like more information regarding TEN16, please contact the Project Aware Counselor at your school.
